Anybody interested in the new Springfield XDs?
« on: June 22, 2012, 08:47:00 AM »
I like XDm's and I like 45ACP, and I like compact but still manageable... But I'm not sure I like 5+1 capacity. In that case, I may as well carry a 44mag snubbie.

Anybody else thinking about picking one up? Or do y'all think I should just get an XDm45 Compact instead?

Really though, I think I want to get an Ed Brown Kobra Carry Lightweight - I need to start saving!

I am interested but want to shoot one first. Know anyplace that has one in their rental fleet? Top Gun didn't have one yet.

Seems like a good/great pocket carry gun.

That small of a 45 must have a good bit of recoil.

My thought exactly, which is why I want to shoot one. Here is a pretty good review video.

That small of a 45 - not interested, personally. I shoot better with a fullsize 9mm over a fullsize 45, generally.

I'm really digging my Shield in 9mm, personally.

I was once tempted to rent the PM45 here at Champion Firearms, but never got around to it, and then lost interest

I could have gotten one of those in 40 twice. But, I'm only interested in 9mm...

I want a Wilson or Ed Brown 1911. I know you used to have an Ed Brown. Do you regret selling it? Do you think an Ed Brown is worth the premium over a Dan Wesson or even a Springfield/Sig/Smith & Wesson?

I want another aluminum frame Commander size (4.25 or 4in), so my options are pretty limited. I'm really leaning towards the Wilson...

No, I do not regret selling it. But if I ever wanted another 1911, it would probably be either another Ed Brown or a Springfield Professional.

And yes, I DO think they are worth the premium

I am interested in the XDs, but would wait till it is more readily available first.  Probably see if I can try shooting one first before I get it.  Just read a negative review on xd talk, in fact the poster is selling his.

Me too.  Something that small, I think a 9mm is more manageable and probably carry an extra round or two.

The wife and I went down to newbielink:https://thearmsroomtx.com [nonactive] in League City to shoot her new pistol. We bought the S&W SW40VE. We got the pistol because it was cheap and thought with the name "Smith & Wesson" on the side it would be a pretty good shooter.

Well it turns out to be reliable, but when it comes to accuracy it lacks, terribly. I believe it is because of the long trigger pull. Either way I went to the counter and rented an XD40 standard size. This gun shot AMAZINGLY.

The model we shot was last years model (I believe) but both of us were punching the bullseye out at 20yds. I was sold on it.

Remember I am talking about a .40 cal not the .45 acp but IMO it is a very good gun and is one that I will be purchasing very soon.

Hope this helps.  :wave1:

Yes, while there are Sigma fanatics who bristle anytime says something negative about them - far too often people get sucked in by the price of a Sigma. Then, their next post is complaining about that long, heavy trigger.

I believe it. What is odd though is one of my friends and shoot the lights out it that thing. Says his dad bought him the Sigma as his first gun, I guess he got over the trigger issue.

It's a trigger control (shooter) problem more than a trigger (gun) problem so with practice you can certainly overcome it.
Of course having an easier (short/crisp) trigger from the start means you can shoot it well much sooner.

I had the PRP trigger at 4.0lbs on my XDm. Zero overtravel and very short reset with a very nice, crisp trigger break. After all that it was about half as nice a trigger pull as a high-end 1911. ;)
