Avg handgun distance you practice at?

What distance do you usually practice with when shooting your handguns?

I do most of my shooting at 7 yards personally. I've been trying to do more practice at 15 yards, but can only do well with my 92FS and my 1911s...

I don't see how the 25 yard pistol guys do it. I can shoot decently at that range with a P99 I used to have or with a 92FS if I have to, but still not the groups I get at 7-10 yards. And any other gun at 25 yards, and I am all over the paper.

I usually try and split the day and do half at 7 yards and half at 15. Hard to do 25 yards with my carry guns. But again, any day shooting is a good day.

I try to stay at 10 yards. If shooting good may move out to 15 yards, if shooting bad will come back to 7 yards.

Usually 10 yards, but I do like shooting at 25 and even 50 yards, as it makes the closer shots that much easier.  As a good drill, try running 100 yards full sprint to the firing line if you have room, laps if you don't, then shoot your self defense group on paper.  It's amazing what a little adrenaline does to your shooting.

I shoot at 15 almost exclusively when just poking holes for fun.
Today, while doing tactical work we were running drills at 9 feet, which is statistically the distance most handgun encounters occur.

9 feet allows you to really speed up the trigger, which is always good for a smile or two.

5, 10, 15, 20 yards.  Since I'm typically at an indoor range, I don't practice much beyond 20 yards.

3, 5 and 10 yards for the most part.  Would have done 7, but the range I used to shoot at in AZ didn't have a 7 yard target post.  Of those 3 distances, only about 10% was at the 10 yard mark.

I never saw any point in spending a lot of time and effort shooting at a distance that I was really not likely to come across in defensive pistol shooting.  I always had a good time watching the morons at the range spend $100 sending lead downrange at 25+ yards only to check their target between fires and find a less than 10% hit rate.  Never made any sense to me why people do that.

If these guys can't hit squat at 10 yds, there's no need to move out further...
It's difficult to stand at the 3yd bench and look like you're the best.  I wish more people would master the short work, and then move out to some longer distances.  You have to crawl before you can walk, but 99% of the guy's at the public range want to be Carlos Hathcock or Rob Leatham on the first day.

I've shot at 25 yds. and did well enough on an 8" paper plate.  We then tried it at 50 yds. and the front sight completely obscured the target.  That was interesting, but when we dialed it back to 15yds it seemed like child's play.

That's the main reason I drill paper at 15 yds.  If I need to get in a defensive position, I really don't need to do more than point and click because my body knows what to do.

Oh come on.....if you paid thousands of dollars for the very best, top grade 1911 and some clown comes along and beats you with a $400 plastic pistol, wouldn't you hate Glocks too?-

PSC's # 2 pistol range is like 15 feet and they no longer let you shoot in front of the concrete pad. So that would be the distance I most shoot from.

I thought I was really cranking them out shooting at 50 yards one day at a friend private range in Liberty Hill. Then we moved back to 100 yards for long gun work I had taken over as range safety when a young lady walks up and asked my friend if she could shoot her H&K P7M8 at this distance, he tell her yes but to walk it in so she didn't shoot over the berm with hold over. She smiled and started at 75 yards and walked them into the target in 5yrds at a time. Then she rang a 10" steel plate until the P7 got hot. When the range went cold I walked down and checked her plate, she could have been shooting a 4" plate and still had steel on target. I asked her what her hold over was at a 100, she told me she was holding almost flat. I can't do that, I dream about it but can't do it.  I have seen it done so I know it can be done.

I start every day at the range with one magazine from my carry gun at 3 yards.  Then I move out to 7.  Then to 15.  Then back to 7 for the remainder.  The outdoor range I go to has a metal plate at 25 yards.  I like to throw a couple down there just to hear the ding, but mostly I practice at 7 yards.

I like 10 yards personally. A little longer but if you can shoot at 10 you can shoot at 3.

Between 3 and 15 yards. Popped a head size balloon at 40yards. That's the furthest I've ever been out to with my handgun.
