Heard about this earlier this morning. Sad indeed. Great musician, songwriter, patriotic and proud American, and vocal supporter of the 2nd Amendment, and gun rights.

He will be missed.

Put on probably the best show I've
ever been to.  If I'm remembering right,
he played every instrument on stage
at least once, and did it well.
It's a crying shame to lose a great man
like this at a time when we need so many
more just like him

RIP Charlie Daniel's.

A patriot.

In 1980 I was 15. We were watching the music awards on the old wire antenna TV.

When Charlie n band walk on  stage for ""the devil went down to Ga",
my mom starts yelling at my Dad,
"LOOK  LOOK  ITS BUDDY. "

Charlie had a broken arm and couldnt play the fiddle. A distant cousin of ours, whom my mom and dad both knew, and walked to school everyday to the old red brick school/church, with my mom and her siblings, Buddy Spicher, was playing the fiddle for Charlie.

I've never met either man, but I still know the whole rest of the spicher family that still live just up the road.

That was kinda neat.

Buddy also plays the fiddle for George straits  Amarillo by morning.  :th_thicon_funny:

Local country farm boy, born not 500 yards from my grandpa's family farm,  makes good.

Mom and an aunt  said, he walked the 2 miles one way,  to school and back just about every days as a kid playing a fiddle, driving everyone nuts..  :th_thicon_funny::th_thicon_idea:

There are two kinds of people in the world my friend. Those with loaded guns, and those who dig. YOU DIG.  " Blondie".

Well, any man that wouldnt cheat at cards for a poke, dont want one bad enough. " Gus".

That's a great story DCD. In 1976 I saw the Charlie Daniels Band open for The Marshall Tucker Band. This was before his mega hit the Devil went down to Georgia. After that he was the headliner.

After my father retired from the military he was the advertising manager for a local C&W FM radio station. He also filled in as a DJ on the weekends. In '79-'80 he kept two records on rotation every hour and a half. The "Devil went down to Georgia" and "Take this job and shove it." Said every other phone call was a request for one of those songs.
