Ozark Trail pot/mess kit
« on: June 17, 2020, 01:52:59 AM »
Has anyone ever boiled water in stainless steel Ozark Trail pot in an open fire

I have used a titanium pot, but they cost a arm and a leg and would like to try something lower in price

I have stainless, aluminum and titanium lightweight camping pots.
Titanium is a great product and birthday gift but aluminum, which is similar in weight to to TI, is much less expensive.
Titanium is a bit easier to clean but if you only boil water it doesn’t matter.  It’s also very tough.
Stainless is just too heavy and the price difference with aluminum is not bad.

This last one I got might be
Ozark or it might be Academy.
I'm not really sure. Either way, the
way to make em work well is to
not scrub off the outside of the
pot, just rinse off the loose stuff
and let it build up so the pot will
heat faster with less fire needed.
After mine cools, I wrap it in an old
piece of t shirt then put it away in
the storage sack.
I wouldn't use a mess kit at all
if I could cook everything I cook
and just use a USGI canteen cup

I think this kit I have now was about
$7.00 more or less. I'm sure I've got
that much use out of it so far
I'd buy another without hesitation.
I'd be hard pressed to get the use out
of a titanium set. Maybe if I was in
my 20's again. Then I might get enough
use out of it to justify the expense

The  titanium pot I used was 750ml and I put it in the fire and in a few minutes the water was ready

I have seen people using the SS bottle from Stanley do the same thing with good results

I don't think the Ozark SS pots are in the same class as Stanley that's why I was wondering if any of you have tried the Ozark SS in a fire
