..hmmmmm - "firewalls"..
« on: May 29, 2020, 01:04:56 PM »
.
I bought a new HP printer yesterday, tried to get it up and running this morning - a no go.....got hold of the "person in India or Pakistan" who said I had no firewall/needed for the set-up - I've never paid any attention to that but thought that my Anti-Virus program had all the protection I needed....."not so" says Neelu Dhingra

so, he and my Wife spent the morning setting up a costly firewall (I can't hear nor understand those people) - also cleaned up the computer and the whole process took about 3+ hours - I'm still not sure how this all comes together, but.....

any comments ref "firewall" ?

And next year, you’ll have an AI assistant to replace Neelu at a lower (but now recurring) cost.
Welcome to the new IT Services customer support model.
(Remember when Microsoft Office was $300, vs now is $100/year?  Yea, that’s where your firewall services are going)

I usually get a "George" or"Frank" when I call a Pakistani based call/help center.

Get a Chromebook laptop and maybe solve many of those issues. Ship pointed me in that direction and I got one a couple of months ago. I am very happy with it.

Just making sure - you WERE talking to someone in HP for sure, right?

You didn't give them access to your computer, did you?

You don't need a special firewall. Most antivirus suites have a built in firewall. If it doesn't, just use the free Windows 10 firewall. That is all I use for now.

Also - if you have a router for internet, it has a firewall as well.

We have 3 HP computers ,1 all in 1 screen and computer and 2 laptops that we got for free as my oldest daughter works for HP.
I bought a 3 in 1 printer, fax and copier that works great also a Hp ENVY 7640.

I like HP as well. I own 2 now (an HP chromebook and an HP Windows 10 laptop). I've also owned 3 HP desktops before that. And, my son has an HP Chromebook right now.

Once all the mail order computer companies went broke a couple decades ago, I've bought nothing but HP over the years. I also have an HP printer.

I have 1 Dell Chromebook. It is the first Dell I have owned since 1993. Overall, I am not really a Dell fan, but this particular Chromebook had the features I wanted at the time.

I will be buying more HPs in the future. I can't get my 2 previous favorites - Micron and Quantex.

We have Macs and avoid about 99% of all the windows bs.
More than I’d like to pay but worth the near-0 hassles.

I like Chromebooks the best. So, so trouble free.
