Does anyone have a backup generator?
If so tell us about it.
I'm thinking about getting one.

Yes I have a Honda EB 4000 that is pretty old but has worked for me .
This one is not big enough to run everything like the A/C and Well pump but I can
run a window unit and the fans and fridge.

Last year we put in 22kw Generac automatic standby generator system. It's in, testing says that it does what it's supposed to do. It starts up every Saturday morning to prove that it's still there. But, since it has been put in, we haven't lost even a minute's power. Therefore I can't tell you if it is worth anything to us, other than peace of mind. It is funny, the months before we put it in, we were losing power on a weekly basis. I guess the power company cleaned up its act.

BTW if anyone is interested, I have my old 9kw generator with standby electrical boxes and 40' connecting cable (legal connecting equipment) that I would be happy to sell.
Do yourself a favor, find America One News Network (OANN) on your cable carrier. 208 on Uverse. News without the Network BS or bias

There are quite a few brands of stand by generators, but Generac is an industry leader in this field.

With my Dad living with us Im thinking we need something that can keep at least 1 Heat Pump, the lights and TV & Internet running, probably 5-7 KW.

There is an energy calculator that you can use to estimate what size generator is needed for your specific needs. I'm pretty sure it can be found online. IIRC, Generac use to have one on their website. One of the shops I worked in, was a dealer for Generac. We sold and serviced Generac equipment. From an equipment repair tech guy, if I had to make living from repairing Generac equipment, I'd starve to death! Thank goodness that idiots can still tear them up!
