Hey y'all!
« on: October 16, 2019, 09:04:45 AM »
Thought I'd wander in off the street and check things out.

Basic facts:

Sadly, I wasn't born in Texas, though I came here as a toddler and lived in Webster until Jr High and then Spring Branch in Houston. I've had to live with my horrible birth defect for over 55 years. They still won't give me a handicapped parking sticker though. At least my 4th Gen Texan wife says I'm more Texan than she is.

Northbrook High School (1982), The University of Texas (1986) for undergrad & The University of Houston (1990) for Masters.

Picked up a CPA license along the way, but am singlehandedly trying to break the stereotype of the nerdy accountant.

Irish Catholic, though I haven't been to Mass in years.

My true passion is fly fishing, with shooting a close second. I fish both fresh and salt waters.

I spent from 2000-2010 exiled to my father's hometown of Cleveland, Ohio. Whole different culture up there!

Gave up tobacco & alcohol years ago. Now my vices are Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla & a good chicken-fried steak!

Didn't get around to getting married until I turned 50. Was having too much fun! No kids, though the War Department has two from her previous marriage.

I RSO periodically at my buddy's ranch & gun range out in Fulshear-Simonton.

I have an affinity for FN products, 1911s, AK-47s and revolvers. Not much for Glocks, though I realize they are dependable & popular. So are Toyota Camrys, but I drive an F350 & a VW diesel Passat.

What else do you want to know, now that you've wasted 45 seconds of your life reading this?

Well.....tow my boat (kinda like swatting flies with a hand grenade), squish annoying Prius drivers, mess around town. My dad was a diesel mechanic for over 50 years and retired from Mustang CAT. Folks actually brought me home from the hospital in a diesel Mercedes. Always figured they baptized me in diesel fuel as well. Gotta have my oil burners! :D

Where abouts in NE Texas are you? I have a fly fishing buddy from Quitman and one of my oldest friends is from Sulphur Springs. I also know not to speed through Diboll!!

I'm about 12 miles south of your Quitman buddy - in Mineola (relocated here from Conroe) - and since you're a fisherman & have friends up here you must know the reputation of Lake Fork for Bass (matter of fact I was in Quitman this morning - dropped off 2 of our 4 Doggies at the Doggie Dentist's place - will pick 'em up later this afternoon)

I used to Bass fish, on Lake Conroe - actually a Montgomery address - but when I moved off the Lake and sold my Boat the fishing stopped

Leigh John is one of my best friends. I'm there most weekends unless I have a fly rod in my hand somewhere. If you come across a big fellow (6'6", 285#) driving a green F350 with Ranch Hand bumpers helping out there, introduce yourself. That's not a Texas Yeti, it's me.
