What a week. Geeze!
« on: September 09, 2019, 11:47:07 AM »
Man, I have been to 4 doctors in the last week - I FINALLY found out what is causing me my problem this morning... What a week...

About a week ago, I started coughing and had chest tightness. I was coughing like I was throwing up or coughing up a lung. Also felt like I had trouble breathing.

I went to an urgent care and had chest x-rays. My lungs sounded fine ,and the xrays were fine. They put me on a very high dose of prednisone for 5 days. That triggered my migraine issue, and I even had to stay home 1 day from work.

Come last Friday, I was not getting any better... So, I went to my allergist - I was using my nebulizer 3x a day to help with my breathing (I have asthma), but it was not helping much. Still had trouble breathing, and coughing was the only thing that helped... But not for long. I did a lung test at the allergist and it came out fantastic. He did not know what was going on and had no idea what to suggest other than allergies...

I went to another doctor late Friday - because my chest was killing me too- soreness between the ribs. He even checked my heart with an EKG... He diagnosed me with costochondritis (inflammation of the cartridge around the rib cage). But, that still does not help me with the coughing.

All this weekend, I am coughing so hard that I almost passed out a couple times. Yesterday, I decided that I would just go to my ENT office on Monday when they opened and try to get them to fit me in. Luckily, they did manage to fit me in.

All this weekend, it felt like I Had drainage in my throat - but not coming from my sinuses. Like it was starting around my voicebox, and then draining to the bottom of my throat/top of my lungs. It is like I am drowning all the time. I knew the ENT could put a scope down my throat and see what was going on.

Well, he said I have reflux. Apparently several areas around my voicebox are burned badly. That makes mucus, that runs down, and that is what is effecting my breathing.

He stated he gets it every couple of years, and people think he has TB for a couple of months. Apparently, it will be over a week before I get better - but I have a couple of medicines that should help.

With all my neck and back problems - like I really needed this.

Seriously Ship I had re flux when I was in my late 20's. Lived on Mylanta for a couple of months. Eventually went away.

Aspiration of acidized food particles when you eat or snack is what caused my Dad's reflux.
Quit snacking a lot helped close the valve and keep the acidic gasses down.

Good luck sir.

No, no treatment plan.

My situation is actually rather strange... I went and visited a chiropractor in San Antonio the day this started. Not my usual guy I have seen for years for my neck and back. This new guy jerked the hell out of me with traction... Way too hard. I do not think he realized how hard he did it. I even had to go lay down right after because I was dizzy for a few hours.

Anyway, this issue with the cough and trouble breathing started a few hours later. I just did not know why I was having my issues, but I had a feeling it was tied to that. That's why I ended up going from doctor to doctor.

Now that I know, I told my regular chiropractor. He said it makes sense now. I had told him that I felt a pop between my shoulder blades immediately after that fool in San Antonio did that crazy, too hard adjustment. I also almost had the wind knocked outta me because it scared me so bad and it was too hard and too sudden.

Since I went to the ENT, my chiropractor told me that T6 can effect reflux.

The thought here is that if I can just get everything to settle down for a little while, I should be okay. I have never had this issue before.

Careful with “its just reflux” a guy I know (he is 58 yrs young) just found out he has stage4 colon cancer. Has had so he thought just reflux for awhile now. ate lots of tums etc.

Not always as simple as just acid reflux.

I just had a colonoscopy 2 months ago.

And, it started right after that torture. Plus, I've already had a chest xray. I'm not worried about anything else.

FWIW, some years back i visited one of the country neighbors
and caught him in the middle of using one of those nose flushing pots,
where you pour warm/hot saline water in one nostril and it flows
out the other. it got to me and kinda made me gag until he reminded
me about him mowing and cutting all that grass and hay and loading
and moving all those bales, and how he didn't sneeze at all.
i tried that and have been doing it ever since. it sure does clean out
the old sinuses really well, and i don't have all that black snot
mucus spewing out my nose after heavy duty mowing or grinding on
something, or being in dusty/dirty/grimy conditions.
it's the only way to go IMO. it does take some getting used to so as
not to get the saline water in your throat. after a while you'll figure
out how to hold your mouth and facial muscles so as to keep all the
water running where it needs to be. cheap cheap treatment for the
result you get. i can't remember the last time i ever had a sore throat
or a head cold.
it does not help any with acid reflux

once you get the process down, it's actually pretty soothing
regardless of the gross out factor, and pretty cheap for the results

I stopped 90% of my coughing within 12 hours of starting that reflux medicine.

Once I stopped the coughing, THEN I could notice the other symptoms of reflux.

Thanks, I am better. But, still have issues about 90 min after I eat. Plus, the medicine makes me feel weird.

I just can't win. I've already been dealing with neck issues for 18 months - tied to optical migraines. Like I needed another problem...

Hmmm :thinker: Haven't you been seeing the Russian gal for about 18 months? Not implying anything of course.  :icon_wink:

Funny.

Actually, I have been seeing her for 2 and a half years now.

I've always had some optical migraine issues for 20 years now. It is just getting worse as I get older. Now, my eyes make my neck muscles tighten up so much that the vertebrate in my neck lock up.

I've been to 10 doctors about this. I recently got botox in my neck for the 3rd time, and I've also gotten steroid shots in my muscles in my back. Only thing that has helped so far, but it's just a temporary bandaid.

I'm waiting until Dec to see another neurologist (6 month waiting period) to see if he has any ideas.

Just the opposite here. After my diagnosis a couple of months ago about being a step away from dialysis I've been following my doctors orders to a T and also following the advice of a guy I met in the kidney clinic. Cut way down on the booze consumption, lot's of water, some fruit juices, no potassium (makes the kidneys work overtime) so goodbye bananas, oranges and small portions of potatoes and mushrooms.
I feel better than I have in almost two years. My goal is to go to a couple of my grandson's football games this season.

Great. Glad you feel better.

At my worst last year - I literally had to see my chiropractor 3x a day at 1 point. What else can I do when My neck gets stuck and it's pinching a nerve at the same time. It was crazy.

I went thru 8 pairs of glass and even tried a couple of pairs of contacts. I could put on a new pair of glasses and have my neck and shoulders tighten up within 5 minutes of wearing the new pair. I've tried different materials for the lenses too. Nothing works.

I had issues with glasses in years past - and I would get various symptoms, and then a stiff neck. Now that I have arthritis, it seems that instead of smoothly rubbing against each other, the vertebrate gets stuck. I've literally spend $6k on this since this started 18 months ago. I am better than I was last year - but it's still really affecting my life. It's a daily issue I have to deal with, and it's really wearing on me. It's affected me a lot and I'm really sick of dealing with all this.

And now, I've added this other problem I've posted about above.   :bangheadonwall:
