..Ah Shucks..
« on: August 03, 2019, 03:04:02 PM »
.
our Boys need to be gotten to the Vet so that they can have their "annual" check-up/treatment done.....problem is we don't own a Horse Trailer

in the past we've "hired" a person (who became our friend) each time we needed the Horses to be "moved", but that was 205 miles south of here (that person also brought our Boys to us here (from boarding) after we had their Barn built and their 1st Pasture completely fenced)

now it seems there's nobody local that "transports" and there's no facility that "rents" Horse Trailers.....so.....looks like our only alternative will be to "buy" a Trailer (and I really didn't want to do that - but..... :frown:)

(soon we're gonna need more acreage just to park trailers  :help:)

Check out Craigslist in the Farm & Garden section. I see all sorts and sizes all the time for sale.

So what type of horse trailer are you looking for? I'll keep my eyes open while perusing and if I see something that might be what you are looking for, I'll give ya a holler.

there are folks that will transport your stock from A to B,
but as said ^ ^ ^  most rural vets will come to you.
there should be at least one in mineola or quitman or
somewhere not too far away that will come out. ask your
farrier. they surely know of one.
FWIW i know some folks in canton/edgewood that do, but
they might charge more than you want to pay. they usually
do cross country transport.

yeah, we checked on a Vet coming to our property - ok for emergency stuff but not for the "annual" and teeth floating (even tho our Barn is set-up to accommodate that)

Axxe - I did call one of the links you posted (a dealer in Alto, Tx) - thought it was $1500 less on the "new" CM trailer but turns out it was a less expensive model.....did, however, discover 1 thing that I didn't know and that is with a purchase from a Dealer there would be no sales tax requirement for a trailer used to transport livestock (only - can't have living quarters and be tax exempt) - so that's a pretty good savings right there when buying new

thanks fellows for the help - will get with my Wife when she returns and see what we can agree on doing.....

I “think” you need an AG exempt number to save sales tax. I know I did to not pay tax on Tractor. I dont have one and dont currently meet the state comptroller requirements for one.

May be some exemption for livestock trailers dunno never bought one.

Hope it is so Tango.
Anytime you can avoid the “tax” man is a good thing.

^ ^ ^ this
ag exemption can be a tangled web, and i'd advise you to steer
way clear of it if there's any way you can

not sure but I'll check with my Tax Guy (don't want any surprises at the end of the year)

but, just to pass along.....one "dealer" said that the ag/timber exempt was a whole nuther thing from exempt for hauling livestock (as long as it's used to haul livestock and nothing else - and - no living quarters) ..... thing is tho, when I talked and made a sad face about sales tax to "the guy" in Canton, he didn't mention anything about "exempt when used for hauling livestock", so.....

like I said - I'll talk to my Tax Guy.....simple solution would be to buy a good used from a private individual

found a (somewhat) local guy (Big Sandy) who hired on and transported our 2 Boys to the vet and back today.....nice guy and it cost less than we've paid before

best part.....don't have to "buy" a trailer   :th_thicon_idea:
