The Legend Of D.B. Cooper!
« on: July 11, 2019, 02:35:07 PM »
This robbery is still unsolved. Has been unsolved for decades.

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/crime/he-died-claiming-to-be-a-disabled-veteran-but-many-believe-he-was-hijacker-db-cooper/ar-AAE8Khy?ocid=spartandhp

I have watched several different TV programs on this D.B. Cooper over the years. So who exactly is D.B. Cooper?

betcha you're not gonna find out on this forum

a related note :  "Cooper", with parachute, left the aircraft (a B 727) via the aft airstairs while in-flight

there is a control to lower or raise the stairs at the aft Flight Attendant's station (also a control behind a panel on the outside of the aircraft for ground personnel)

subsequent to "Cooper's" usage of the stairs as a "jump station" there was a "fix" that disallowed the stairs from opening during flight.....it was a simple little device - a rectangular "flying wing", held in place by a bolt - 'twas able to rotate around the bolt in the relative wind of the flying aircraft and therefore not allow the stairs to open/drop downward.....then, when no longer flying, the device would use gravity to rotate away to a position that would allow the stairs to fall (for usage on the ground)

a cheap fix for all B 727s

I think this is one of those cases of slipping into the realms of legends and myths and will more than likely never be solved as to who the "real" D.B. Cooper was.

I think I read that the FBI officially closed the case in 2016 as unsolved, but closed.
