Lessons Learned.......
« on: July 09, 2019, 12:32:30 AM »
My father gave my brother great advice growing up. One of the lessons he taught us, that one of the best teachers in life to learn something, was if it cost you money to learn that lesson.

My father wasn't one to bail out my brother and I if we screwed up. We had to learn those lessons the hard way. It might seem a bit extreme, but looking back, it was a most valuable lesson that our father imparted upon us, and it made us think long and hard about the decisions and choices we made in life. We also learned to rely upon our own skills and means to figure out problems, and how to get through them, and what the important things in life were.

I think in many ways, that parents "bail" their kids out of their problems, and to some degree they never learn these valuable lessons of critical problem solving, since someone is throwing money at the problem for them, instead of them figuring it out for themselves. This is sad and tragic.

+1 to your Dad Axxe.
Best advice I ever heard was “DDSS”.
Don’t Do Stupid Shi_”.
If your mom, dad or other adult was watching, would they think it was SS?

Simple.

Thanks TXAZ.  :th_thicon_idea:

Dad is still a pretty smart man, and my brother and I both still go to him for advice on many things. One thing about the advice from Dad, he don't sugar-coat things and he never will give us advice that would lead us in the wrong direction.

I have made lots of mistakes over the years, just like anyone else. But, I also learned valuable lessons from my mistakes, and learned not to repeat them!

Very sorry to hear that Tango.
It appears you've done well (other than being forced into the Martin Baker tie club :afraid4:  ) , that's a tribute to you and your upbringing.

I have to agree with TXAZ on that Tango. Anyone can tell. that knows you more than five minutes can figure out your ethics and morals are above reproach sir.

Yes I was lucky with the father I was blessed with. Strict, but fair. Doled out discipline as well as encouragement, and rewards.
