thank you for the wishes - same to ya, et al.....

gonna be sorta special this year in that the City of Mineola puts on a BIG fireworks display at the City's Civic Center - which just happens to be on the other side of a smallish forest and will be visible from our back porch - now we'll give 2 of our 4 dogs a "calming" pill, keep 'em inside, fix a toddy and enjoy the show

Happy Birthday USA.

Thanks and well wished to all who are and those who have served this great nation allowing us the freedoms we enjoy.

At least at the moment the idiots are doing their best to remove those.

I love the 4th of July, for many reasons. First, what it symbolizes as our struggle to win our independence as a country. Second, it usually was the un-official beginning of summer. Third, the backyard cook-outs and fireworks.

For many years when I was working, I didn't usually get the 4th off. Many of the companies I worked for, we worked 24/7 and 365 days a year. So I usually got either holiday pay, or a day off I could take sometime at a later date.

This year for us is a little extra special, because this time last year, the wife was pretty sick and we had just recently learned about her having cancer. So the good news last week, kind of makes this one a bit special for both of us. We are going to grill quite a bit outside and invite my father over for dinner tonight, and sit out after dark and watch the neighbors fire off fireworks.

yes, it's sorta hard to move "the 4th" to a Monday (so that people can have their 3 day weekend - like a lot of the other "holidays" have been moved   :thinker:)

Brazos County employees get today and tomorrow off as paid holidays.
There was a time when state employees received Texas Independence Day, Confederate Heroes Day, Veterans Day, Columbus Day, Lincoln's Birthday and Washington's Birthday as paid holidays along with July 4th, Memorial and Labor Day (three day holiday), four days for Thanksgiving and a minimum of three for Christmas. The Governor would usually declare Good Friday as a holiday or half day.
Over the years state employee's lost Texas Independence Day, Confederate Heroes Day, Columbus Day and Veteran's Day. Lincoln and Washington's Birthday were rolled into one day, "President's" Day and MLK Day was added.

My favorite part of Independence Day. Grilled cheeseburger with a thick slice of onion and tomato, Chili cheese dog with mustard and a side of potato salad.
For dessert my wife's angel food cake topped with slices of bananas, strawberries and whipped cream.
My son was in charge of the grill and my wife and daughter in law everything else. I took command of the beer. :salute:

I hope all had a safe n happy independence day.
Me I did a little work on my tractor and spent the day goofing on the land.

Had to come back last night but heading back this am.

Here in metro SA where it is “illegal” to shoot FW in the city limit we enjoyed a pretty pong and at times impressive FW display from about dusk til close to 1am before they all exhausted the hundreds of dollars they frivolously spent on them.

ONLY in America can you celebrate your nations independence by subsidizing the Chinese economy.

just me- i've yet to understand why the eff that we can't pretty much shut
the country down for one teeny day. it's not like the earth will stop spinning
or everyone's bowels will lock up tight. so what if you can't go to wally world
and buy new underwear, or get the oil changed in the camry ?

semi related- the poor trash truck driver didn't get a day off. i heard them
running down adjacent streets and thought "what the bleep? i know it's
designated trash collection day, but i thought they'd be off today and
pick it up tomorrow. ."
i made him a quick hot dog and chips and sliced bbq sack lunch to carry out
to him, but he made it past too quick and i missed him.
cryin' a$$ shame that the wheels can't stop turning for one day.
i'll bet the supervisors were all at home or the country club

Just think, we get to celebrate the 4th of July because ordinary citizens had military grace weapons.

Makes my heart  get all warm and fuzzy.
A well balanced breakfast, being necessary to the health of the nation, the right of the people to keep an eat cereal shall not be infringed.  Now who gets the ceral, the breakfast or the people?
Sure I'll shoot your Glock.  Just hang it with the rest of the targets.
