What is your ideal self-defense handgun trigger weight?

3lbs? 5lbs? 8lbs?

For me, I prefer DA/SA. I like about 4.5lbs in SA, and about 8lbs in DA

“Something, but not nothing”.
4-7 lbs depending on the pistol.

I'm in the camp with TXAZ. It is dependent upon the pistol.

1911 platform pistols, in the 3 to 5 lb. range.
Revolvers, in 4 to 5 for SA, and about 8 to 10 for DA.
Most other pistols, depending upon the trigger, usually around 4 to 8 lbs. is fine.

I am very particular about trigger jobs on guns. I either do my own, and there is only one other person I trust to do a trigger job for me. One of the tricks he taught me many years ago, was to look for smoothness in the trigger pull rather than just decreasing pull weight. Many years ago, he did a S&W revolver for me. Once he had finished, the pull weight had decreased very little, but it felt much lighter because of the smoothness of the trigger function.

DA/SA triggers I like six or seven pounds. When shooting double action only My Colt Detective Special and couple of other of my revolvers have a slight but noticeable pause before it breaks which is preferable to me.

For my striker and internal hammer semi autos I find 5-6 pounds preferable but a little more or a little less is OK too. On one end of the scale I had a Ruger P-89 9mm that was at least 12 lbs. but probably more and on the other end the trigger on a Beretta Cheetah double stack .380 that I just sold was scary light, 2 lbs. or less. I really didn't like to shoot it and it just gathered dust. The guy I sold it too loves it though.

My Shield EZ, according to the spec. sheet is 5 pounds or just shy of that. Perfect for me.
