We never really had many in SanAntonio. Some of the smaller cities within did. ie Balcones Heights.

Had them in College Station at 1 point. And, I saw them in the little areas around Houston for a while. I hated them.

Yeah, the vendors may have marketed them as a ‘safety’ measure, but I suspect the cities saw them as just a way to increase revenue without having to increase their police force headcount.  And since the fines & paper work processing was going to be done by a ‘third party’, all the cities had to do, was sit back and collect their portion of the traffic fine money!  Your city government at work❗️

I too think it is a money making scheme.

Also, rear crashes went up when the cameras were around.

And, I know from personal experience I was paranoid about the damn things. I let off the gas when I went thru those lights, unless I saw them turn green and knew they would be green by the time I got to them.

Plus, there are some times when you get to them and they are turning yellow - and it is a judgement call as to whether or not you can make it. Well, I stopped on yellow at the ones marked with the camera. Sorry - I did not want a ticket...

And, guess what - so did everyone else.

Oh - I also opposed them due to the fact that I think they are cultural appropriation...

How, I'll let you figure it out....

because it is.

the person driving need to be cited, not the owner of the vehicle.
that's what makes it a revenue generator.
if the lawbreaking driver doesn't personally get the ticket and get punished
and get it on his record, what's the point other than to bring in money ?
it's supposed to be about safety.

A friend of mine had a Mustang that he raced  at the track on weekends. He dropped it off at a national chain tire store for new tires and struts. Picked it up after work.
Three weeks later he received two red light camera tickets for the same day it was in the shop. Long story short an employee at the tire shop admitted to taking his car on a "test drive". When my friend initially took his evidence of the car being in the shop to the PD they said FU pay up. Tire shop at first denied any liability. The tickets were finally dismissed but it was a three month PIA.
Yeah red light cameras suck.

yesterday,  in 14 miles and approx. 6 traffic lighted intersections, I witnessed 2 instances of (different) care running red lights (musta been workers from NTB taking customers cars out for joyrides..... :thinker:) - perhaps it's just a "Texas thing"

I say bring 'em back
