Brazos County just inside the College Station city limits on the east side. The area in the background of the first two photos are state protected designated wetlands. Just over a hundred acres but maybe double that. Mostly thick brush. Lots of deer and pigs some coyotes and lots of other critters. It's a real nice area when the creek is down. People come from all over to walk their dogs and have picnics under the big oak trees. There's a few folks that go down there to fish right after the water recedes. Walked up on a couple of kids smokin' wacky tabaccy a few years ago. March thru October mosquitoes are thick all around here because of the creek and the fireants will be all over after being flooded out as well as a few snakes.

Forgot to add this to my earlier post. This is what's left of my front yard. About 1/3  washed away. All the topsoil and most of the grass in the middle of the yard just gone. Just heard that there is a strong chance for thunderstorms from the west tomorrow.  :help:

We bitch about no rain.
We bitch when it does rain

Humans just like to bitch.

I am glad to see the wet after the long drought we have been enduring.

However as usually goes in South Texas we cant seem to find the happy medium.

LOTS of rain yesterday. 50 mph + winds. 70 mph west of here i'm told.
power went out while i was here at the library on the confuser. rained
so hard you couldn't see more than a couple of yards out the window.
MANY MANY trees down. limbs scattered everywhere. a large crane collapsed
west of downtown onto a condo and parking facility injuring 6 (last count)
and killing 1. power was out at the house and for miles in every direction.
300,000 plus in this area alone. many still don't have power. power out
'till not quite 10 pm at the house. from what i understand, the earliest
estimate for restoration is about noontime wednesday. lots of cleanup ahead.
i got really lucky and didn't have much damage. no visible roof damage
thankfully. already had a roof crew out twice this year. many people fared
much much worse.
for a change up, they said that outside power crews had to be called in
for here as opposed to us sending our local crews out to another area.

Saw that on the news feed yesterday about the crane in Dallas. It could have been much worse.

Hopefully you will get power restored soon Ranger. Glad to hear you didn't suffer any damages.

Our forecast is looking decent for at least maybe a week as far as more rain. Lord knows we don't need anymore rain for a while!

Wife sister lives in Copperas Cove about a block away from where a tornado damaged 200 homes. The tornado would drop down and run about 50 yards then go back up only to come down again. It did this several times for about 5 miles. She said it sounded like a diesel engine revving up and then dropping down to idle. No damage to her place but scared the crap out of her.

Back in 1984 and 1987, we had tornado's that came through Anderson county, and both did extensive amounts of damage. The one in 1987, only one person was killed by the tornado.

Tornado's are one thing that scare the crap out of me.

I'm taking advantage of the decent weather and getting some brush hogging done around the house. It's still a bit warm and humid and I will have to go easy so I don't get too hot out there, but I have already made huge dent in the tall weeds so far. Maybe if the weather holds and we don't get anymore gully-washers, I might be able to bring the bigger tractor and brush mower over to the house and mow the ROW and such.

power here was out about 7 hours or so.
depending on which news you listened to,
there were 100,000 - 150,000 people still
without power as of yesterday.
personally, i don't think they really know
since they depend on electronic meters now.

lots and lots of limbs and trees and debris everywhere
to clean up. a lot of chainsaws to be heard running most
all day. you can hear roofing crews repairing and replacing
roofs all up and down. "POP POP POP. . .POP POP POP. ."

Glad that you have power again Ranger. Last storm we had that took out our power it was out for over 24 hours. Did lots of damage to the lines and poles in our area.

Well still taking advantage of some good weather! Going to go out and go back over the areas I brush cut yesterday with the riding mower this afternoon.

dang! !  they say about 10,000 people to the north of town are still
out of power. the word was a few days ago that everyone would be
up and running by weds.
now they say those still out might be out for 5 or 6 more days.
that's gotta suck with this humidity not to mention no refrigerator
or freezer. that's what would chap me.

electrical and tree trucks everywhere here
