A Wild Texas Friday Night!
« on: April 12, 2019, 07:57:45 PM »
I have done this thread on several different forums over the years, and it's always been kind of fun.

Just talking about just anything that comes up. Wives, cars, jobs, guns, music, funny6 jokes or things we do, or use to do on Friday night.

For many years, I worked third shift or nights and many times it meant working the weekends. When I was married, it wasn't that big a deal, but when I was not, sometimes it was huge drag! The current wife and I use to love to go out to eat on Friday evening, and then head over to our favorite club in town, have a few beers, listen to the band playing and dance the two-step!

A Wild Texas Friday Night!

With the land I now spend alot of Friday nights on it. As I am this one. I get here close to dark depending on when I can depart the house in SA. 75 or so miles is well an 1 1/2 or so with store for food in the little town just before I arrive. Then I can get settled in and relax with a couple cold brewskis and the dog.
Then on Sat I can hit the ground running. And do whatever project I feel is top o the list today. This weekend I need to get a kennel built for the mutts (her bro will be her tomorrow) so that they are contained when Im working on the place. Its gonna be fairly large. About 50x100 so they can move some.
When Im free they will be as well.

Before land Id spend many Fri evening hanging with the local car scene and the L or the MACH1 or the 85GT I built.

Priorities have shifted now to getting the land whipped in to shape.

Aint I a thrill a minute.

Gone now

Also gone now divorce suxs.

Managed to hang on to this one.

Shield, when I decided we were going to build our house down here on the farm, I'd get up early on Saturday morning and come down here, and sometimes spend the entire weekend working, on clearing brush and doing dirt work getting it ready to build the house.

Axxe thats it pretty much.
It is enjoyable and I get to benefit from the results.
Not my first time doing something like this.

In early 80s as a young man I spent 1 1/2 yrs of weekends and every free moment pretty much building my 1st house. Everything from forms and foundation (pier and beam w/ perimeter 8in concrete wall) to the shingles on the roof and everything in between.  Only pd to have carpet installed and AC hook up n charge. I had done all duct plumbing and wiring for it already.

3 man crew mostly. Me my dad and a really good friend.

Ever lift(2 men) a wheelbarrow full of cement 3 ft to pour it in a form? I have ALOT of them.

I like building 'stuff'.  Haven't build a house but several accessory structures and gutted a house in Austin.

My Dad built a house and the biggest issue he ran into was getting subs to come in when they said they would.  But it turned out great.
But it can be very frustrating.

Having a house built and Building it yourself are totally different.

BIY you control what when where how etc. Contractor your at there mercy with things.

Yup no way Id hassle with a custom built home by a contractor. Seen my folks go through it too many times always a PIA.

I likely wont build this one Im looking at ALOT of options. However it WILL NOT have wheels aka mobile home.

Would like to find and relocate an old farm house as it would be appropriate for the location.

However at close to 60 and being another 5 or more before Ill land here Ill likely forgo that option. Not looking to remodel an entire house room by room. But I wont say never.

The land I have was deeded to me by my father back in the mid 1990's. I was still married to my second wife at the time, and because she didn't want to move this far out of town because of her job, it pretty much sat vacant for many years. I would come down here and go shooting instead of going to the local gun range, or camp out down here occasionally on weekends to get away and enjoy the woods.

A couple of years after the current wife and I married, we decided to build a house and let her kids have the trailer in town. I wanted something of our likes and desires, and something on one else had ever lived in, built like we wanted from the get go. I bet we went through at least a hundred floor plans and designs, before we finally settled on one we both liked everything about the floor plan and size. It was just going to be the two of us, but I wanted at least three bedrooms, plus at least two bathrooms, and an attached two-car garage. I really wanted a two-story, but she wanted a single-story. So we settled on a single-story with cathedral ceilings. (our ceilings in the main living portion of the house are almost 14' at the peak.) Our house is almost 1600 sq. ft. in the living area of the house, with about 420 sq. ft. in the garage. One of the other things I wanted, were large covered porches, front and back.

It was a difficult time during the construction! Saying that, would be an understatement! Less than six months later we had a house though.

I have no idea as to what is up with the cell phone reception here. I tried several times to call you back, but it showed it was ringing, but would then drop the call. Lets try again later this afternoon maybe.

Texas A&M graduation weekend here. Probably an extra 20 - 30 thousand people or more in town for the various graduation ceremonies. Lots of partying.
Was at a doctors appointment this afternoon. The clinic is on the same road were all the big restaurants are. Bumper to bumper all the way.

Ship just like a game day weekend. Starting Monday and for the next three months there will be 30-40 thousand less people in town There was a time when you could really tell a difference but not as much now though.

Well, I have noticed that I can go up and down FM 2818 now - during exams. And, it is much better now around the 5pm times. I always like the time between semesters here
