We are just about finished with the big tractor. Just have to replace the blown A/C line and the dryer, recharge it again, and it's pretty much done except for painting it. We worked a couple of hours this morning on it finishing up some minor details.

of my "ranchin'" chores I've gotta say that I enjoy doin' the Tractor work (almost as much as tending to and loving our 2 adopted neglected Horses)

the solitude of being out in the Pasture mowing is enjoyable and I like to play games while plodding along - for instance, a very long stretch, perhaps 500 yards - the 1st swath is never arrow straight so I like to see how few succeeding swaths it takes me to straighten the line of cut

then there's the wild life to watch - I've always got 3 or 4 Barn Swallows that offer up aerobatic displays while feeding/while flying on the bugs that are kicked up by the Tractor

or just enjoying the beauty of the wild flowers (soon to be cut to pieces  :frown:) - or trying thru mental telepathy, to make the Butterflys move before the Tractor reaches 'em

soon it'll be time to unhitch the rotary cutter and hook up the Post Hole digger - got a couple of new x-fencing we want to build (1 is about 100' and the other about 200' - no small projects there.....)

just stepped out on our back porch - to take a pic of the near back Pasture (mowed), the creek running from right to left (can't be seen but it's where the mowing stopped) and then across the creek to some tall grass.....that's the area that's still too wet to mow

this was taken in full "zoom" so it's sorta hard making out stuff

perhaps you can see, on the slope of the hill, where I've been mowing today - sort of mowing in a circle around a power pole - it's dry up there - I'll get back out there manana

Cavan Biggio, the son of the great Astro's catcher, made his major league debut at 2nd base with the Toronto Blue Jays this week. His first hit was a home run and he went 3 for 3 against San Diego.

Had the Red Sox/Astros game blacked out in my area today. So I watched the SEC championship game between OL' Miss and Vanderbilt. Tied 10-10 in the bottom of the 9th with bases loaded and 2 outs for Vanderbilt. Mississippi brought in their closer. First pitch was a walk off single to win the game. That's why I love college sports and baseball in general.

In an unrelated story Bart Starr the great Green Bay QB of the 50's and 60's passed away this morning. One of my best memories of pro football was the 1966 AFL-NFL championship game between Dallas and Green Bay at the Cotton Bowl. Starr vs Dandy Don Meredith. Cowboys lost 34-27 but it was a great game.

I had the both the tractor thread and the baseball thread open in my toolbar. Guess I got confused. Reading one and posting on the other.
Yeah walked over to my son's house and watched the ball game with him, my grandson and son's father in law while the women made supper. Had the obligatory two beers. Grandson ran out and bought tamales for some reason so I had a combo dinner of chicken fried steak light on the gravy, tamales and green beans. Weird but tasty. Small bourbon afterwards then walked home and fired up the laptop. So no can't blame it on the alcohol.
Now if the time stamp on that earlier post said 11:30 instead of 8:30.......... :icon_wink:

Yesterday we worked on replacing the guts of the quick-disconnects fro the hydraulic remotes, with ISO types. Ny brother took the tractor for it's maiden voyage down the county road and the FM highway. He put about five miles on it to see if it was going to get hot or anything and to just kind of shake off the cobwebs! It ran great. Other than just moving it around the barn yard a bit, it's the first time it's really been ran for any length of time or driven.

Tomorrow we are going to hook up the bat-wing mower and give it a try with the tractor. About all that's left are some of the cosmetics and some minor details. It's pretty much ready to use if we can get it in the fields!

Well, started painting this morning! I got the front-end loader cleaned up and painted. Brother and Dad got the gear boxes drained on the bat-wing, resealed and filled with new gear oil. He also went ahead and sharpened the blades. Surprising as old as the bat-wing mower is, it's in really great condition mechanically. It might even get a new coat of paint pretty soon!

Well thats the good thing about Tractors. They last as long as you care for them well.
I am hopeful my new 2018 will last me as long as Im around to make use of it.
So far in about 35 hrs I have put on it since 3/14/19 purchase I am confident it will.

That is the key thing Shield, taking care of them. Now we use our equipment like they are  meant to be used, but we try not to abuse them, and take care of the maintenance.

That John Deere has never had the engine, trans or hydraulics rebuilt since brand new.
