Well I have to keep coming back to Alison Krauss. IMO, she just has the voice of an angel.

Don Williams, The Gentle Giant. My introduction to Don Williams was from my grandmother. Now that might not seem so strange, unless you knew my late grandmother. She was dyed in the wool faithful follower of the Church of Christ religion, and was in church on the front pew, just about anytime the doors were open! She very ever listened to anything but gospel music, but for some reason, she loved listening to Don Williams. His albums were the only ones she had that weren't gospel albums of some sort. (She even had all of the gospel albums of Elvis Presley!)

And Don Williams was also a songwriter as well. To this day, I can't listen to a Don Williams song, and not remember my grandmother.

I had to laugh at one he wrote called " She got the mine and I got the shaft".LOL

Or "The Bird".  :th_thicon_lol:

"Somebody get me my BB gun!"  :th_thicon_funny:

Who could fergit that un.  :P

"the last thing I gave her was the bird,,,,,  :thumbsup1:"
"And she returned the favor with a few selective words...   ... "

While I never cared for his singing, Kris Kristofferson wrote a good many songs for Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, and Waylon Jennings.

Steve Earle was another great song writer. While he couldnt ever seem to manage to stay off the drugs,, He wrote ALOT of Linda Rondstadt, Cyrstal Gayle, Tanya Tucker, and many more.

Both those guys have a string of number # one chart hits a mile long. They just didnt sing them.

Kristofferson has a dull monotone voice with no range and just cant sing period IMO.
But Steve Earle was a really good singer,,, he just couldnt stay off the dope.

Now,,,

Merle Haggard was not only a great singer IMO, but also a great songwriter.
And Like Willie,,, Merle in concert, sounded just as good as the studio recorded albums.
Both had the best sounding concerts I ever went to.
While Merle had a pretty calm show that sounded awesome, ,, Willie stirred the crowd up and had a good time. The whole time he was singing and playing he was walking around and tieing bandana's with one hand, wear them a minute, and toss them into the crowd. And NEVER miss a beat or a note while doing it. Willie was a great performer,, and 100% REAL.

So many of these new singers concerts are pure shit because they cant sing worth a damn. Their albums are all mix and altered in the studios, so it sounds nothing like them in real life. They cant even come close to duplicating what the studio does to make them sound good. Thats also alot of reason alot of these new so called singers DONT tour.
Politicians are like diapers, they should be changed often, and for the same reason.

There are two kinds of people in the world my friend. Those with loaded guns, and those who dig. YOU DIG.  " Blondie".

Well, any man that wouldnt cheat at cards for a poke, dont want one bad enough. " Gus".

I like Kris Kristofferson - he's a very interesting entertainer and has quite a background (besides his music)

he's well educated (including a Rhodes Scholarship to Oxford University), an accomplished athlete (Track and Field plus that non-sissy sport of Rugby), a Military Man (ended his Service with the rank of O3/Captain, was Ranger qualified and was a Ft Rucker trained Chopper Pilot      ((go Army Aviation ! )))

(sounds like me, only 2 years older  :th_thicon_lol:)

There are still a few out there, you just have to look for them.

I do like that George Strait got back into writing music again.
