I actually plan to buy a Chromebook later today. I am diggin the operating system on my Chromebox enough to buy another Chrome computer.

I discovered I want a computer upstairs, and one downstairs. And, I'm saving my windows PC to only use Turbo tax once a year. So, I need another computer. I plan to go buy a 14" Dell Chromebook from Best Buy later today, as I read all the reviews and compared all of various model Chromebooks for several days now.  That particular one has the features I am looking for.

I bought another Chrome device this weekend.

I wanted to replace my S2 Samsung android tablet. But the S4 ain't cheap.

HP makes a Chromebook tablet with detachable keyboard - like the Microsoft Surface can. You have a keyboard if you REALLY want to use it as a laptop. But, yank off the keyboard, and ya have a tablet.

It is called the HP Chromebook X2.

I plan to just use it only as a tablet, as I just got a regular Dell Chromebook recently. I like that this HP Chrome tablet also has a micro SD card that can expand the memory.

I ordered a case for the new HP tablet off of Amazon, and I should have it tomorrow.

The device is normally $599. But, BestBuy had it for $399 back in Feb. I figured that if they had it at that price once, they might do it again. I had been checking the Best Buy website daily for over a month. Last week, they had it for $399 again one day. I hurried up and ordered it.

It is really cool. It is basically a tablet, but can do more than a plain tablet can. Yet, most Android apps work on it. I really like it :)

Here is the link to the item: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/hp-2-in-1-12-3-touch-screen-chromebook-intel-core-m-4gb-memory-32gb-emmc-flash-memory-white/6240850.p?skuId=6240850

This is my 3rd Chrome device. I will keep my Windows laptop just for Turbotax and Itunes. Otherwise, I'm all into the Chrome OS :)

I like that I no longer have to worry about anti-malware and antivirus programs....

I just got my case in. There really is only 1 option for this PC.

It is pretty cool. Basically a tablet case - that also allows you to keep the keyboard inside it (and attached) if you like.

I bought this to really just use it as a tablet, since I have another Chrome laptop. It was cheaper than the Samsung S4, and it is really an entire computer and not just a tablet.

Very happy with it :)

I just dropped off my Win 7 desk top with the computer doctor - running very   s   l   0   w

now have my Win 10 Dell hooked up - new, had it sitting on a shelf in the closet - this computer doc say he can make the Win 10 operate almost exactly like my Win 7 (I really don't like change and having to "re-learn" stuff)

I think any money I might have spent on guns this year went to tech instead. I gotta stop listening to this tech podcast I play daily  :th_thicon_lol:

I also bought a new phone back in Nov....

I use Photoshop a lot - haven't tried to install it on the Win 10 machine but I'm thinking that it probably won't (install) - so, when I'm forced to go to Win 10 I'll keep this old workhorse around just for the programs like PS

I think you can install that old Photoshop on win 10. I was using an old version of Photoshop - version 5.5, on my Win 10 computer (laptop). I think that goes back to like 1998 or so. It runs fine on Windows 10.

But, Pixlr Editor is very close to Photoshop. Even the tools look very similar. I use that on all of my Chromebooks/Chromebox. It is a Chrome extension. So, if you use the chrome browser on a Windows PC, you can install the Pixlr extension and use it on any computer. It is free. You only have to pay if you want to get rid of the ads. As little as I use photoshop, I can live with the ads because I do not use it enough to justify $7 a month, just to get rid of the ads on the right side of the screen

But, anyone who uses the chrome browser cane try it out even without a chromebook. If I already had photoshop (which I do have, but on a WIndows PC), I would use photoshop. But, on my chrome devices, it is more than good enough.

Just curios, does MS office and Adobe Creative Suite run on Chromebooks?

Just curios, does MS office and Adobe Creative Suite run on Chromebooks?

For Office - IF you have a 365 Office license, you can use the android Office apps on a chromebook. What I do is you the free online version of MS Office.

https://office.live.com/start/Word.aspx#

They have Outlook, Word, Powerpoint, Excel and Onenote for free thru the browser. I like that version better than the android version on a chromebook. I upload my original document from the computer, and then sav it on the Microsoft cloud afterwards.

As for Adobe - I found this paragraph about the Adobe products that work on a chromebook:

A few months ago, Google announced support for Android apps on Chromebooks, further paving the way for their mainstream use. Android versions of several Adobe apps—Photoshop Express, Lightroom for mobile, Photoshop Mix, Illustrator Draw, Comp CC, and the Creative Cloud app—are supported on Chromebooks as well.

These days, my computer needs are fairly simple. If I can get online, post on a few forums, read my emails, I'm a happy camper.

So far this laptop is hanging in there. It's an HP 2000 the wife bought some ten years ago IIRC. It won't get replaced until it bites the big one! That is part of why we usually lag behind on the technology curve! I hate to throw away, or replace something just because it's older. As long as it continues to work, well...... :wave1:

I'm a lot like my father on such things. My father still has an old cathode tube type TV. It still works just fine according to Dad. My brother keeps trying to get him to buy a flat-screen TV. Dad ain't budging! Says he'll buy one when that TV craps out.
