What firearm did you use for your first CC/LTC class
« on: September 30, 2018, 03:07:12 PM »
I signed up for one of the first classes offered in my area held in the VFW hall. This was either late '95 or early '96 can't remember. I used a 9mm Ruger P89 DC with a 12 lb. trigger. Didn't do to bad for it being damn cold.

I had a blown up Glock 17 and had not yet gotten a new barrel yet (squib using someone else's reloads before I moved here to Texas). So, I used the instructor's Ruger P89 to pass it that very first time in 1996

Do you remember how the trigger was? I paid $275 for mine and see now that good examples are going for a lot more than that.

It's been so long ago (over 20 years), I don't remember. I was at the start of my gun shooting career, (bought my 1st gun in 1993) and I never had any instruction. I was not a great shot until I asked a range master to give me some tips one day (back in 96 or 97). Then, I got much better and appreciate things like trigger specifics. Before that, I didn't know much.

At the time,  I never thought that high of that particular gun, because it was so cheap compared to other guns. I had a friend who joined the sheriff's academy back around 1994, and he bought one at WalMart for like $252 back then.

But after shooting it that day, I liked the gun. I shot it better than the Glock 17 I already had. I came close to buying one many times, actually. I liked the greenish color of the frame, with the stainless slide.

I wouldn't mind having one if I found one in good shape now, though....

I used my Wife's G34 (she shot her G19) - I think I did pretty well by getting docked 1 or 2 points for a 249 or 248 - Wife shot a 230 something

pretty good shooting for newbie novices if I do say so myself

I was hunting since I was about 8 years old. by age 10 we were hunting by ourselves.
The first pistol I bought and carried with a permit was a Ruger Blackhawk. I bouught both a 357 and 22lr/22mag convertible on the same day.

The first actual LEGIT qualification of any type I did was with an M16 A1.
Shot 40 out of 40 on the 400 meter pop up range.

After shooting like that on the M16. We practiced with a Remington 1911 A1, and I did do very well. I still shoot my R1 really well. I like shooting a 1911 although I dont CC it much.
We did have to do the close order drills for clearing jams, tear down, cleaning, etc.

But when it came to the actual 1911 qualification, they gave all the "sharpshooters" that shot better than 36 out of 40 with the M16,  a "EXPERT" pass.
And it dont seem to me there were very many of us.
Truth be told, we were kinda pissed about it as we wanted to see WHO would win that.
But if I remember right, they gave us a weekend pass instead for that Saturday,, so,,,.
Politicians are like diapers, they should be changed often, and for the same reason.

There are two kinds of people in the world my friend. Those with loaded guns, and those who dig. YOU DIG.  " Blondie".

Well, any man that wouldnt cheat at cards for a poke, dont want one bad enough. " Gus".

Used an XD9 Service model to qualify for my CCW.  I had just installed a PRP trigger.  Hadn’t had a chance to test it yet so I was hoping I had done everything correctly.  (It worked fine).

S&W 4006 .40cal

Scored 238 out 250.

I was my FNL’s pistol.

Had not decided what CC weapon would wind up with.
Settled on shield 40 at the time.

I searched one out afterwards as I enjoyed the weapon and shot(shoot) it well.

Bersa Thunder 380, as it was my only gun. Think I had 2 points down.
For the LTC Instructor qualification I have used my M&P Pro 9 5" and 8" Nickle Colt Python and shot perfect scores.

I'm a big fan of the Bersa Thunder .380. My wife and sister in law both carry one and I have another in .22 LR. Have been looking for the double stack .380 Thunder model for two or three years. Always sold out.

Years ago, I almost bought that model several times. I liked the look and feel of it, but never got to shoot one.

Uh, I have not had my first CC/LTC class!  When I do though I will probably take my Beretta Brigadier.

Back in the early 90's when I was stationed in South Dakota I did get a CC license there but back then you just filled out a form and paid a fee then you were given your license.  It was a simple small laminated piece of paper with your license #, name, and address on it.  No picture or anything else.

AMT .380 Backup

I had this crazy idea that I was going to qualify with the same pistol that I was going to carry.

Back in those days you had your revolver permit and you had your semi-automatic permit.
To carry a semi-automatic you also had to first qualify with a revolver.
So for my revolver I again chose to qualify with what I would carry....S&W model 36 snubnose.

I don't even remember (want to forget) just how bad I did. Good enough to pass, barely.

I couldn't fire a magazine without the AMT jamming.....sad, really sad.

Had a AMT Backup about 40 years ago. They hadn't been on the market long and it was cheaper than a PPK which is what I really wanted so I went for it. I thought it was a cool little piece even though it jammed on the last two rounds every time.
I was in the Army at the time and a soldier in my outfit offered to trade me a used but in great condition Charter Arms Bulldog .44 Special for it. Kept that Bulldog for twenty years.
