LTC is it best to wait for the snail mail reminder?
« on: July 28, 2018, 04:52:35 PM »
Thought I’d renew online.  As I understand, you can acknowledge the notice of where NOT to carry, electronically.

However, I have an address change to make also.  Really it’s a “correction” to the Zip Code - the Post Office assigned us a new number (the last digit changed).

Anybody see any issues or hiccups with making that change at time of renewal?  (Thought I might let them know this was a Post Office change and not a physical change in address).

No, I changed my address when I renewed. Worked fine. But I also changed my DL.

Sounds like a USPS primary issue, and (assuming) they changed the Zip, I expect there won't be a problem.

Yep, the change was effective 1 July 2018.  I’m guessing the Zip Coding with the -dash 4 digit extensions have never really “caught on” - or there wouldn’t be a need to change the primary number like they have.

Did changing your DL cost anything?  If it costs to change the DL, I’m inclined to just wait for that renewal also.  Post Office said they’d keep delivering mail with the old Zip number for a year.

It is like $25, if I remember right. You can do it online.

I’ll see if I can wait for the DL renewal to “correct” the Zip Code.  I see no reason to pay for a change the government [Post Office] made.

If for some reason DPS needs to find you,  a bad zip code isn't going to stop them ;)

To All,

What would make such things easier would be to tie the TDL & LTC together at HQ, DPS, so that BOTH are updated with a simple change of address.

That’s what I’d like to see happen too.  I’m just not sure how “tied together” those two systems are.  I know there’s some connection because they can use your D/L photo for your LTC.  It would make sense to me, if I “correct” to the new Zip Code on my LTC (during renewal) it should carry over to the D/L.  And since this was a government change, my feelings are, this shouldn’t cost me a replace charge for my D/L.  And if it doesn’t carry over, I’m not inclined to make the D/L change until it renews.

Of course, if they hold my LTC hostage, forcing me to pay for a D/L “change of address”, then I’ll have to reconsider.

Before I left in 2015, the idea had been floated informally, but there are so many projects that need to get done, Who knows what and when.
