I just accomplished the impossible!!!!
« on: January 29, 2018, 07:11:27 PM »
After what felt like wrestling with a bear, I actually installed a Hogue Jr (made to go on Ruger LCPs and small semi autos) onto my Walther P99.

Damn, it was a hell of a match. I almost lost. But, I was victorious

I hate the fullsize Hogue handall. But, the Jr version only has 1 finger groove that is smaller. And, the palm swells are much thinner. I have them on my PX4 compact and Hk P2000. The P99 has a wider area around the magwell. And, with the big curve of the backstrap, I really had doubts if I could get it on.

I like rubber grips on my CZ compacts, but i just dont have any time or use for the big fat
finger groove ones. They dont fit my hand, and I dont shoot well with them.

So I can relate to liking the thinner rubber grips.  :thumbsup1:

Yes, I have tried to make myself like the normal Hogue Handall, but I cannot stand it. And, the edges of all the other brands of rubber slip on grips are too thick.

I hate putting an ugly piece of innertube on anew gun, but I have done it many times in the past. But this Jr Grip works great :)

Cool. I previously owned a PPQ. I just like DA/SA more. The PPQ trigger was too light for self dense in my opinion. I actually sold it to someone here on the forum.

No, the boiling of the grip for 60 seconds works well. But, it can only work so much. I don't want to use baby powder - as the grip may move a bit afterwards.

Shipwreck,

YES, I understand that this is somewhat "off-topic" but do you (or any other members of our crowd) know of a similar product that actually FITS the S&W Shield in 9x19mm??

I've tried TWO different "sleeves" on my little Shield & neither fit it properly.  :bangheadonwall:

satx, I tried many different options for a Shield grip sleeve, and none fit well enough.
I ended up going with Talon rubber grip decals (http://amzn.to/2FsqWl9) and have been very happy with them for the past couple years (still on first set with no peeling).

When I had my Shield for 3 years, I used a piece of bicycle innertube. 1 innertube can work on over 10 guns. Not the prettiest, but it works great. Cut it how you want. If it does not come out right, cut another and try again.

This is commonly used on the gun forums. I even have this on my P2000sk right now.

I was just about to suggest that. I have found that the larger inner tubes for off road type mountain bikes worked best plus you can get several grips from one tube.

The smaller gun in the bottom of the pic has a piece of inner tube:

I like the PPQ because I can operate it with one hand incase my other hand/arm is wounded

Easiest was to install any rubber slip on grip is to squirt the inside of the grip with glass cleaner (read: Windex or clone). Then slide over frame and set your pistol aside overnight. The glass cleaner will evaporate leaving you a grip installed with much less effort.
