First Shot Hits at 250, 750 and 1000 yards
« on: December 01, 2017, 08:35:37 PM »
I went to Austin and picked up my 6.5 Creedmoor today, "Blaster", from Tracking Point.  I'm very impressed. I made 13 shots, 12 hit their steel target at 250, 500, 750 and 1000 yards.

The first shot was at 250 yards, no wind entered, and it connected.  Next shot was at 500, no wind entered, missed left side of plate by 1"  Cranked i 5 mph wind and the remainder of shots were all hits.
Below is the video link for the first shot at 1,006 yards.

You're watching the recorded video from the sight.
At first you see the sight get zeroed in on the steel target, this happens when you pull the trigger back and hold it.  Next the target is 'Tagged' which ranges the target and leaves a bright dot on the aimpoint, and a ballistic solution is computed.  The scope then moves the aim point down, and you move the rifle up (with the trigger still back) until the crosshairs are on the aimpoint.  When you get the crosshairs on the aimpoint, the bullet is released. You have to watch closely but about 1 second after the gun recoils you can see a slight movement in the steel target at 1K yards.

Below is the link to the video, I couldn't figure out how to get the video to embed. (help appreciated)

Yea, that’s why I have Boomer as a long range shotgun.

great - and did you shoot it at a range owned by the manufacturers in AUS, or where was the vid you posted taken

when you picked it up were you given a check-out on "how to set-up & use" ?

bet you're very excited about becoming proficient with it and getting into some competition..

So I take it that all this NEW fancy smancy stuff has made the age old time and proven  " SWAG" obsolete ?  :thinker:    :th_thicon_funny: :th_thicon_funny:

NOPE!
You still have to figure the wind (which my lack of caused the 1 miss at 500 yards).
And you still have to be able to point the weapon to the correct aimpoint.
But, like Barrett built BORS to take the next step in automating the aimpoint, this rifle scope automates dozens of factors to improve the likelihood of a hit.

But consistency is the key.  The ammo is all match grade ammo, from 1 vendor, Hornady, for either match or their equivalent of a precision hunting round.
The guts are based on a Remington 700 accurized barrel and action.
The math is simple, but complex for a human to calculate on the fly.  The scope calculates several dozen times per second wind, Coriolus, Magnus, pressure, altitude, shooter movements(yep) and other lesser but precision affecting parameters.
At 1000 yards, most of these effects can change the impact point 1-3 inches, not as big a deal at 100 yards.

Anyway, it's a blast to shoot, it's a different way to shoot, and like was done with Boomer, I've got to adjust my body so the light recoil drops the gun back on target.

If we're still on for the 18th-ish, I'll bring both Boomer and Blaster.

Old news.  Talked to them about that. Historically that might have been true early on, but they are a going concern today and sales and employees are up today.

The IOT article is very misleading, and doesn’t mention the researchers had been given access to internals.
And the system defaults to a very simple way to prevent hijacking the rifle.

I like it.  It works as advertised.

The wind can really mess you up at long range. We shot at Triple C Tactical's 700 - 2K yard range a couple days ago.
Shooting out to 1200 was pretty easy, just dial your dope, and hold off 1-2 mils, past that, the wind was swirling around going up the far hill. I was able to connect a few times at 1500 yards, but gave up after a half dozen shots at 1793 yards. The wind whooped our butts past 1200 yards.
I was shooting both of my 6.5 Creedmoors, one with the Berger 140 VLD,the other with the Hornady 143 ELD-X handloads.
