See what happens when you don't have a .50 BMG....you have to resort to what is essentially a spitball against a Hogzilla.

Clearly a good kill shot from a pea (pee?) shooter!
The difference in Boomer and this guy is for a target that big, Boomer can easily drop a Hogzilla  out to a mile, still be stable (supersonic) and 3000 ft lbs energy for a clean kill.

I realize that the new .38 ammo,  + p,, etc,,, has come a long way from the days of old when it had a rep for being a weak round.

I grew up on a farm. Ive seen what happens when a wounded  500 lb + pig gets pissed off.

If this wild hog was indeed that big, 820LBS,, I dont think I would have walked outside with anything less than a 30-06.   :P

Or an angry 90 lb goat.  And definitely getting too close to an 800 lb bull following a cow in heat!

Did that a time or two.  :th_thicon_idea:

2 farm hands were killed by  bulls on our homestead way back before my time.
We were taught from an early age not to ever trust them. Generally, the first time a young male showed any signs of being mean, he went into the freezer.

To All,

IF I was facing a huge hog of that size, I'd drag out the 9.3x62 & the 286 grain Privi Partisan JSP ammo.
(ONE shot = GYD.)

I'd unload Boomer's full mag as a CYA.  820 lbs of miscalculation could be a very No Bueno day.

So ... how much bacon does one reap from 820 pounds of hog?

How big is your freezer?
Get another large one.
(Dred, its very roughly 1/2 the weight of the pig gets processed and packed into the freezer as cuts, including bacon)
Here's a cut chart, bacon isn't the majority of it:

ZERO lbs  on this one.

The story says they throwed it out and saved the head w/ 6' tusk for a mount.

They claimed it was too hot outside and it hung all night in the heat.

Dunno, a WILD hog that old that had never been grained up might have been pretty rank and  tougher than an old boot.  :P

See what happens when you don't have a .50 BMG....you have to resort to what is essentially a spitball against a Hogzilla.

The difference in Boomer and this guy is for a target that big, Boomer can easily drop a Hogzilla  out to a mile, still be stable (supersonic) and 3000 ft lbs energy for a clean kill.

Looks like a good use for a .50 API round .... even through there would be nothing left of the hog

API leaves a much smaller hole than many other rounds, particularly a Mk211 round.

I've seen Armor Piercing Incendiary rounds disintegrate large rocks/boulders in West Texas....I figure the hog...being softer....would go splat

Connective tissue has a fair amount of tensile strength.
Rocks really don't.

Definitive proof that -- although maybe hair-raising -- there is absolutely nothing wrong with sending a person with a small frame/weak wrists out into the world with a .38 SPL for self defense. If it can wipe out a nearly 1,000 lb. hog with proper shot placement, it's plenty good enough for attempted murderers. :th_thicon_lol:

To All,

As a person who has cooked a LOT of feral pork, a suggestion:  Pigs to 100# dressed weight are GREAT on the BBQ.
Bigger hogs not so much.

just my opinion, satx
