The OFFICIAL S&W Thread!
« on: April 27, 2011, 01:38:43 PM »
Now that we have no "Groups" anymore, I thought I'd start these threads... Previously, there was a "group" for each manufacturer... One could talk about that brand and/or post pics.

Anyway, if ya got a S&W (M&P, other semi auto or a revolver) and are proud of it, this is the place to do a yee haw or post up a pic or whatever!

Only S&W I ever owned - once upon a time, a SW99 with a hard chromed slide. Good gun:

686 4' barrel    Very sweet shooter
Model 19, the very first gun I ever bought, way back in the early 1970's
God and the soldier we adore
In times of danger, not before.
The danger gone, the trouble righted,
  God's forgotten, the soldier slighted.

I got an old beat up Model 19-3. Think I should send it off to S&W to have them reblue it?

The finish is kind of splotchy in places and the cylinder is more silver than black. Looks like it has gotten a few dings along the way too.

Nice gun.

How old is it?

What do you plan to do with it? How much does it cost to reblue?

Nice gun.

How old is it?

What do you plan to do with it? How much does it cost to reblue?

Serial number starts with 4K so I think it was made in 1972 or 1973. It's just a shooter, don't think it has any collectible value at all. They don't make them any more however.

S&W Performance center website has the following options:
High bright polish $250
Glass bead nickel $200
Standard polish and blue $200
Glass bead blue and stainless steel $155

The examples look nice: http://www.smith-wesson.com/wcsstore/SmWesson2/upload/images/perfcenter/finishing.jpg

But seeing as I only paid $275 for the gun, $200 for the standard polish and reblue would be almost doubling the cost.  :P

I guess it wouldn't hurt to send it in and have them check it over either. But they charge extra for any parts that need to be replaced. It hasn't exploded on me yet, but there's no telling what parts might need to be changed out and who knows better than S&W?

:th_thicon_idea: I have the new SD40 and love it.  It's a great, reliable home defense pistol.  Never had a problem with this S&W!

Grumper, I think I'd leave that nice old Smith alone.  It has character and appears as if it's done its duty somewhere along the road.  If you spend all the money to refinish it, it still won't be worth the cost of all the work, so why do it?  However if you just want it to look nice and new-like, then go for it.  I personally don't see anything wrong with a gun that's been used and has honest wear on it, it's not like leaving it out in the yard for a week to rust up or anything like that.

My new SD40!

Just got it yesterday.

Finally got my SD out to the range.  I love it.  Put 250 rounds through it without a single hiccup.  I like the snap to it.  The sights are great too.  I shoot alot better with it than m PK380.  Found my new carry gun!
