The Picture Thread!
« on: April 06, 2019, 09:09:09 PM »
A thread devoted to various and misc. pictures of just about anything you have taken. Pretty much anything! Cars, pets, friends, family, yards or gardens, ect.

Some of the dirt work I did late last year.

A stray that I named Bandit! I have had him now going on three years.

Father's Day 2017. My brother on the left, and I (in the center.) with our father, who we cooked steak and shrimp for that year.

Mr. Tippy and Miss Tilly. Some of my last puppies. Miss Tilly disappeared several months ago, but Tippy stays pretty much by my side when I'm outside.

My lovely wife and I from a few years ago at a family reunion. 2012 IIRC.

My land and what I use as a back stop currently. A big pile of sand behind that wood.

My new tractor. Had it two weeks  when this  was taken last week.

My dad aunt and two cousins in our boat (dad built the boat) at our lake house in 1968. Me on the dock disappointed 5 passengers only.

My front yard looking towards the entrance gate. Taken last summer.

Part of the backyard after doing some dirt work last summer.

Powerline ROW after I did some dirt work and we got a pretty heavy rain.

Opposite veiw of the ROW from the house side. After some dirt work last summer.

My Sparkplug! We lost him late 2016 after picking up as a stray in front of the house. We had him almost nine years. He was little sidekick.

Daisy, our Basset Hound, begging for a treat!

A picture of my dog Pongo. He passed away from old age, Christmas morning 2017. We had him for over twelve years. When I got him at the shelter he was about four maybe five years old. The ironic part, some sort of clerical mix-up at the shelter happened and he had been scheduled to be put down the week prior to me adopting him. He pretty much got a stay of execution with us! He was a good dog and a good early alert system for anyone approaching the house. RIP Pongo.

This is a cool old picture of my great grandparents. My great grandfather is a tall 4'10"! My great grandmother was about 5'4". Where my house is presently, is less than a hundred yards from where their first house was located when they bought the farm in the early 1920's. I'm not sure, but that might be the house in the picture that was here close to where mine is.

Lil Bit. Our little one. I was never really a small dog person before she came along, but yes, I am! She was a stray when we found her wandering out along the road in front of the house about eleven years ago. She was so little, she fit into the palm of my hand, hence the name for her. She was tiny back then.

Blizzard in Philly years ago. It was 15F outside, and snowing, as I was walking thru the parking lot to get inside the hockey stadium. This is the outside of the Wells Fargo Center:

Well week before last, during the storm, three heifers dropped calves. Lost two of them that weekend from the storm, but there was this little black bull calf that made it through. Then just a few days ago, this little wite-faced heifer was born.

Brutal. Barely 1/3 survival rate sounds harsh, but then again I'm not a rancher. Is that not unusual?

So far, actually 50% survival rate. Four heifers had four calves, and we have two that survived. But there are four more heifers that will drop calves any day now. So, we just have to wait and see what the ratio turn out to be later.

Update. We lost three calves so far and now have three, two bulls and one heifer. One bull is going to be fed out and butchered, the other will be fattened up, weaned and taken to the sale barn, and keeping the heifer. Still two more heifers are due to drop sometime this month hopefully. So about a 50% survival rate. Usually many heifers will lose their first calf, so it was expected.

Make dog kennel in place so I can work and not have to dog sit.

Mostly cobbled together from left overs on the land.

Had to buy a few posts and a roll of wire as well as hinges for pallet gate.

Shade and water on the end

The next time you hear a grown healthy man talk about recoil being too much, just think of this picture! This was taken just a couple of years ago, of my father teaching my niece to shoot his Dan Wesson 357 Magnum revolver. She weighed in at less than a 100 pounds, maybe, soaking wet, and was shooting Magnum loads, and quite accurately once she got the hang of it.

When I asked a group of Scouts how they were such good shots shooting a 12 ga. for the first time ever, simple answer “it’s just like a video game”.
Different generation with different skills.

TXAZ, both my nieces love to shoot guns and both have become pretty decent shooters as well. Alexis the older one, is pretty danged good with pistols while Ashley, the younger one, is damned good with an AR!

Alexis has a few times even shot my 44 Magnum pistols, even with my Magnum handloads. She does do better with the 357 than my 44's, but she ain't skeered of the recoil in the least!

So listening to healthy grown man complain about recoil, well, I just have to roll my eyes and SMH!  :th_nuts:

Pictures of my little slice of heaven.

The front of the house.

The little sitting area in the front yard. Complete with bird-bath and birdfeeders! I have since planted some flower bulbs around the area as well.

The front yard facing the driveway and the front gateway.

Another shot facing the front of the house, and the side yard into the powerline ROW.

Back of the house, showing my BBQ smoker and grill area off the back porch.

From the back yard, showing the side yard and just how much rain we have gotten over the past several months. Lots!

Thanks Shield.  :th_thicon_idea:

It's been a lot of work getting it to this point, and there is still much to be done. I plan on in the next year, to get new fencing along the road on the front. Hopefully, the idea is to fence it off eventually for putting calves on to feed them out for butchering.

I have just over 7 and half acres, and I'm mowing and maintaining about 3.5 acres of it right now. When it dries up enough, I also need to put in a new water line to the house from the meter.
