Two Wheels!
« on: April 06, 2019, 08:56:23 PM »
I love motorcycles, and have owned and ridden them, for a great number of years. I have owned so many different types of motorcycles as well, as well as various different brands too. I would have to say that my Harley's were my favorites though, having owned five of them over the years.

And I do love talking bikes as much as I do just about anything else!  :wave1:

I used to race (MC) a Yamaha 250 and pleasure ride with my son (Husky 125) - got tired (and perhaps too old) of that so I transformed it into an Enduro/Street bike

was riding along when a car with 2 teenaged gals ran thru a stop sign at a T intersection, almost hit me but managed to drive me up into someone's yard and as they passed the co-pilot hung her arm out of the window and gave me the single finger salute

I rode home and sold the bike within a couple of day

adios fragile vehicles

I had been into all types and brands of motorcycles over the years. Even back in the mid 1990's got into amateur MX racing. With me being in my mid 30's at the time, and racing young kids for the most part, that was fun, especially when I beat them! When I was on a MX motorcycle, I was a pure adrenaline junkie. I loved the speed, and I loved the jumping. In four years I raced in the amateur classes, (125cc and 250cc classes.) there were untold numbers of broken bones and injuries I got. But I wouldn't trade it for anything.

I never did own a "crotch rocket" that is so insanely popular today, but I more gravitated to the stripped down versions that were the beginning of them, before they got all covered up in body-work. One of the last ones I owned some years ago, was a 1978 Kawasaki KZ1000 that was bored and stroked to a 1200cc engine, with racing carbs, cams and a header. One of my cousins many years prior had done all the engine work when he worked at one of the local bike shops as a mechanic. I bought the bike as pretty much a basket case project bike that I slowly rebuilt into a pretty bad boy bike. New tires, new brakes, new chain and sprockets, lights, battery, seat, clutches, air cleaners, tune-up parts, ignition coils, wiring, ect., ect. and so on. Ended up rebuilding just about everything on the bike with the exception of the engine and transmission. Once I got it finished and tuned up, that bike was scary fast. I ended up selling it to a friend, who swapped out the swing-arm for an extended and wider one and fitted it with a drag racing slick! He turned it into pretty much a strip only bike because of how fast it was.

My Neighbor as a kid had about a 1970 or 71 Harley cafe racer.

It was Orange with black stripes and trim. That thing was mint.

I bet that bike would be worth a pile of $$$ today.

The market fluctuates on such things just like anything else. I have seen some several years ago sell in excess of $40K.

Some years ago, a man had one of Evel Kneivel's extra, or back-up jumps bikes for sale, and even had documentation proving who it originally belonged to, was asking $150K for it. Don't know if he got it or not, but that was what he was asking anyways. Documentation will further drive up a price on certain motorcycles, just like guns.

I have been riding since the 50's. My latest bike is a Kawasaki Versys 650, which I really enjoy. I have a group of retired motorcyclists that meet up at Joe's Banquet center in Alvin every Monday morning for breakfast. Yup Old Timers can still ride and pack away the groceries 😉

So Im thinkin Elvis Presleys robin egg blue & black  Harley sitting up at the Pioneer
auto show across the road from Wall Drug in Murdo SD would be worth a few bucks.  :th_thicon_idea:

The wife and daughter in law said I should sell my Vstrom. Might replace it with an FJR.

As a Harley it has a certain value, but adding that Elvis owned it, just further increases the value.

I mowed enough lawns to buy a minibike when I was a kid & I rode the snot out of it until I was old enough to earn $1.25 an hour & bought a used 1973 Honda SL100. Still riding 46 years later. Current bike is a 2007 Suzuki DL650 I bought new but seriously thinking about replacing it. At 62 I'm noticing how top-heavy it is getting it in & out of the garage & around 2 vehicles. And how expensive it is to drop it. $104 for a broken off starter button. Broken levers, turn signals, mirrors, dented tank, etc. I didn't notice it at 50. I notice it now at 62. I'm looking at smaller bikes, mid-size cruisers or the Honda NC700/750X which has a lower center of gravity. I've seen older, smaller guys riding Gold Wings or 800 pound cruisers so I think it's more about center of gravity than weight. My DL650 is like riding a freakin' giraffe.

Babbalou, you are correct about the center of gravity on a bike for sure. A DL650 is a street-legal enduro type bike, so it has a very high center of gravity for ground clearance. Going to a bike with a lower center of gravity, even if it weighs more, would most assuredly be more pleasant to ride for you. And unless your trips or excursions riding include getting off paved roads, there is no reason to have an enduro style bike with high ground clearance.

Just got a new bike. Honda NC700XE. New leftover with zero miles for a good price. I think they're clearing these out to make room for the new NC750XE. First impressions; MUCH easier for me to roll this around. Much more nimble handling & better low-end torque. Comfortable ergonomics. It's only about 20 pounds lighter than my Suzuki but the center of gravity is lower. It feels 100 pounds lighter. Gas tank is under the seat & the cylinders are laid down almost horizontally. Like Hickock45 says "Life is good!" It would be better if it would stop raining!

I had to go to Honda's website to see what it looked like, since I wasn't familiar with that model. Nice looking bike indeed!  :th_thicon_idea:

I tried putting a pic here. Clicked on "Attachments and other options" Nothing. Clicked on "Insert image" & "hyperlink & it gave me characters that don't post. Symbols & letters. I have a pic, just can't get it from my computer to this page. I'm about as techie as Fred Flintstone. Changing my avatar was easy, that's my bike.

There's a tutorial on the Home page Getting Started thread. Basically you need an image hosting site. I use this one: https://imgbb.com/

It's fairly easy to use. Click on the link then click on the "start downloading" button. This should automatically take you to whatever the folder is where you to store your photos . Mine is File Explorer/My PC/Pictures.
Left click on the the photo you want. The screen will flicker for a second (at least it does for me) and you should see an "Upload" button. Left click on the upload button. It will take a couple of seconds. This will take you to the final page. You should see "Upload Complete" and below that will be your photo.
Under the photo you will see in bold lettering "Embed Codes" and below that a box with a down arrow.
You want the "BB Full linked" option
When the" BB Full Linked" option appears the big box below it will have a url link. When you put your cursor on the big box "Copy" will appear to the right. Left click on that.
Now when you want to put your photo in a Texas Gun Forum thread you started or reply to a thread just RIGHT click on the thread screen and then left click on "Paste".  Your URL link should appear.
To make sure the photo is in the thread. Go below the thread box to the orange "Preview" button and scroll up.
I know it may appear difficult but it's actually pretty simple. Holler at me if you have questions.
This gun is liberty; hold for certain that the day when you no more have it, you will be returned to slavery.
