Salutations
« on: April 11, 2017, 12:38:48 PM »
I am new to the forum and fairly new to Texas. I moved to Austin in October of 2015 from a small town in Mississippi. We chose Texas for tax reasons as I work overseas. We chose Austin for its beauty and its non-bustling big city appeal.
I got my first gun at the age of 5 and have been shooting since. I am a father of 3 and my children started shooting at age 6. As a responsible gun owner, I believe that the only way to keep children from playing with guns is to satisfy their curiosity. The youngest is now 8 and even he doesn't play with them. If they want to shoot, we pack up and head to the range.
I am very conservative and believe that private gun ownership is truly the key to our success as a nation to remain free of tyranny and oppression.

So you've learned that choosing austin for it's "non bustling big city" appeal was incorrect?  :th_thicon_lol:

Seriously welcome, but dang, get a toll tag cause the only way to get anywhere in Austin is by the toll roads.

A big Howdy from Brazos County. :thumbsup1:
Grew up around the Austin area and can remember when the city limit sign coming from Cedar Park into Austin on HWY 183 said population 60,000. I get lost driving around there now unless I'm in a neighborhood I'm familiar with and the toll roads thoroughly confuse me. One thing for sure you can always find something to do and I will admit that I have had some of the best times in my life in that city and I hope you and your family do to. You also have several good firearms ranges in that area.

hello from N. Conroe

just thinking that, other than being at the airports, I've never been in Austin (also never been in Dallas or Ft Worth) and I've been in Tejas since '83 (Amarillo, El Paso and San Antonio yes)

live near Houston but absolutely hate going there but have managed to been there only about a dozen times - guess I'm not a "city kinda guy"

The wife and I wanted a larger city. We have travelled most of the United States and seen a lot of major cities. When we decided on Texas, it came down to which major city. We have friends in Houston and DFW, but both of those move way too fast for us. We also chose Austin because it put us in the middle of those 2 and added San Antonio to the mix. Plus, now I don't have to drive 2 hours to get to an airport. Only took me 6 months to invest in a toll tag. Now I am waiting for them to open the express lane on Mopac.

seems like a bigger price to pay than the tag   :frown:   but good info to know I'll pass that on to my cousin, he's a disabled veteran.
