Howdy yall
i have been looking forward to sell off my svt40

Handguns and Revolvers / Re: What handgun is next on your list?
« on: April 09, 2019, 06:51:23 PM »
A pistol caliber carbine, though it might be a pistol setup with short barrel and arm brace to start out.
Most likely the Sig MPX Tacops (http://www.lipseys.com/itemdetail.aspx?itemno=SIMPXK9KMTACPSB)

Just fondled one this morning and it was listed at 1809 or 1899 at the gun show.  Its freaking heavy for what it is.
it looks cool

Rifles & Shotguns / Bore brush problem for mosin nagant
« on: April 09, 2019, 06:21:45 PM »
Have been using .30 cal bronze bore brushes with nylon bristles I purchased from Brownell’s some time back.

Today cleaning a Mosin I observed that, after the brush exits/cleared the muzzle end, while still slowly turned the rod, the brush seemed to be bent. In other words, it rotates around unevenly and in an asymmetrical motion, as if bent at the stem. I switched my used brush out for a new brush and turned it outside of the rifle before use, just to check it. Again appears bent.

6 out of 7 brushes, all new and unused, appear bent. Only one turned in the same plane as the rod without deviating.

To make sure the rod itself wasn’t bent at the brass end (it is a carbon fiber Tipton rod, but threaded end is brass), I tried these brushes on an unused, brand new rod and another, used all-aluminum rod. But again they turn move around at odd angles, as if bent. I don’t think it’s the rod.

Questions:

A. Is this a bad batch of brushes?

B. Or, do Brownell’s brushes have quality control problems?

C. Is the unevenly turning bronze center of the brush nicking/scratching/damaging the bore as it travels the length?

I have no ther brushes on hand with which to clean, but am reluctant to use these out of concern that I am damaging the bore (and accuracy) by continued use.

All opinions welcome, thanks for reading.

Handguns and Revolvers / Springs? My first 1911
« on: April 09, 2019, 06:16:47 PM »
I have just picked up a Sistema colt, well used, but unaltered. Purchased as a shooter so I want to re fit the pistol with new springs and a shokbuff. However when I look for spring kits, I have no idea which way is up. There are all kinds of springs and I've never owned a 1911 of any make before. Can anyone recommend a proper spring set for a GI spec 1911a1?

Ammunition / Ammo for a dutch hembrug carbine
« on: March 21, 2019, 07:05:05 PM »
I bought a couple hembrug carbines and was told they fire 6.5x53.5 R which is very hard to find. But they are M.95 Mannlichers and I was told by someone else that 6.5x54 MS would work in them. Can someone give me a definitive answer? I want to shoot them but they are old and I do not want to run the incorrect ammo through them.

Rifles & Shotguns / Looking for a Stainless Steel Mossberg
« on: March 21, 2019, 06:54:04 PM »
Does anyone have any knowledge of where I can find an all stainless steel Mossberg K series pump action? I contacted Mossberg and was told "there were a small number of early K serial number model 500s that were stainless steel."

Ammunition / mystrery 8mm ammo
« on: February 18, 2019, 07:37:30 PM »
I just got a totally mixed bag of 120 rounds of 8mm "Mauser" ammo. It's all military, mixed head stamps, and old. 24 of the rounds are very different from the rest. The bullets, themselves are silver, like the Swiss cupro-nickle jacket rounds I have, but they are magnetic. The head stamp is simple, but curious. The rest of the ammo looks quite normal, and although I have not figured out who made them (that is coming later), these totally intrigued me. What do you think?

Rifles & Shotguns / 1903a4 questions
« on: February 18, 2019, 07:25:17 PM »
Before I drive across town to look at a rifle I was hoping to get some opinions on the add. I know there are not enough pictures on the listing to make a true determination, but a few things in the description make my spidey sense tingle.

http://www.armslist.com/posts/747727...i-sniper-rifle

my (limited) understanding is Weaver M8 marked scopes were not used on the 03-a4. The knobs look like the commercial smooth twisting and screw down locking type. Also a stock with no markings sounds at best a wartime replacement, not an original stock. If the rifle fell into the Z marked SN group shouldn’t the scope be a m73b1?

my feeling is the rifle is at best a true 1903a4 receiver with a replacement stock and commercial scope and at worse an all out fake. Am I off base here?

Tech Zone / a question about "chromebook" laptops........
« on: February 13, 2019, 03:06:40 PM »
current 2nd hand laptop is probably on its last legs from death by blue screen. It's the $125.00 pawn shop special toshiba.....

anyways, i was on the wally-world website and i am seeing these "chromebooks" prices right with the "chrome OS"......been reading back and forth but still do not know whether to try one or just perhaps order one of the refirbished wal-mart Dell laptops for near the same money but the Dell will have the microsoft operating system.

i understand that chrome can not run MS products like word but they have something of their own. Also do not think the Chrome will allow adobe reader or Flash and i think that might be important as to youtube but i am too ignorant to know for sure.

anyone running Chromebook or the Chrome OS system and give me any ideas as far as photo and video management and browsing? At this point i am not even sure if i can download firefox or yahoo on the chrome os?

trying to keep the budget under $200 and want at least a 15" screen and want a laptop style.......

CHL - Concealed Handgun License / RENEW!
« on: February 13, 2019, 03:02:50 PM »
My time to renew my CCW will be in September of this year, ( this is the first time I have to renew) I am in Siginaw. How soon should I start the process to renew? Can I start now or should I wait until, June or July? Would I get a renewal notice from the state?

The advice from the good folks of this Forum will be appreciated
