I have always liked Maya's reporting, but today I have a newfound respect. Go Maya!

I have been to many of the islands in the Carribean and generally, I have found that any place that has been under British rule, and their skin was dark, the indigenous people hate white people. If you look at the neighboring Virgin Islands, the inhabitants of the British Virgins are much more anti-white than the inhabitants of the USVI. Other Carribean islands that were governed by the French and Dutch are also more tolerant.it has more to do with history and the way they were governed than anything else.

" Surgeon General Warns Against Marijuana Use by Teenagers, Pregnant Women "

and yet State after State "legalize" it's use

yeah, I know, booze is a "no no" also - but why add to something that's proven to be bad for ya by legalizing more "bad crap"  ?

Why continue to make it illegal? Social prohibitions never work. Are you going to criminalize salt, sugar, and bacon because overuse is harmful to one's health? It should be my choice to decide what goes into my body. If my choice harms someone else, then I should suffer consequences.

I have a very liberal brother-in-law who is a gun owner. Both he and his wife have carry permits in Tennessee. They feel that THEY should be able to own guns, but the masses should not.

Politics, Gripes, Complaints / Where did 20% come from???
« on: August 27, 2019, 07:05:42 PM »
You hear stories of how Silicon Valley is attempting to shift political thinking today; and the Environment is one of their big Cause Celeb, along with other mostly left-leaning and Globalist pursuits. I have personally felt that the warnings were a little paranoid and haven't been too concerned. That is until today.

The Media, worldwide, is making a tremendous to-do about the fires in the Amazon. They are screaming that since 20% of the world's oxygen come from the Amazon, something has to be done. Political leaders are ranting at each other. Some are saying that the Amazon region should be Internationalized (I.e. taken from Brazil and surrounding countries). Movie stars are publicly touting large donations to put out the fires and of course, Trump is being shamed for not getting on the bandwagon.
I have a bit of a scientific background and to me that 20% number just didn't sound right, so I headed to Dr. Google to get some scientific facts. So I Googled "How much of the world’s oxygen is supplied by the Amazon?" Of course, a lot of information immediately popped up. For the first 2 pages, the 20% number was predominant. I started to review the articles and I noticed that none of them were from scientific sources. They quoted politicians, soccer stars, movie stars, etc., Very few scientific types.
The reality is, that it’s closer to 6% and oh- by -the- way, if the entire Amazon disappeared, it wouldn’t be the end of the world. I will cite this story from The Atlantic, which ironically tends to lean to the Left.
https://www.theatlantic.com/science/archive/2019/08/amazon-fire-earth-has-plenty-oxygen/596923/
I never did find a real citation for the 20% number.
The whole point here is: If you are looking for true data on a subject, Google is probably not your best source. You may want to pass that fact to your children because they sure won’t learn that in school.

I wonder how long Ginsburg is going to hold on to that position? I am afraid it's going to be one of those "My cold dead hands" situations. She is probably waiting for the results of the 2020 election.

I can't say that I feel sorry for the dirtbag, but I wish that he had done it after the trial. I believe there would have been some tasty bits of info brought out about Slick Willie, Schumer and other notables that he hung out with.
Something fishy about him not being on suicide watch :thinker:

A friend of mine sent me this presentation by an Austrian survivor of WWII. Her tale doesn't sound much different from today. It's over 30 minutes, so you'd better get out the popcorn :th_thicon_idea:

You were very lucky. About 15 years ago a skunk entered my back yard. My dog found the skunk and did his duty and protected his yard. My wife and I were sound asleep and didn't hear the altercation. The dog had a dog door and came back in the house roamed about and headed for his bed in our bedroom. About 2 a.m. I woke with a terrible headache and felt miserable. Since my nose had already become somewhat accustomed to the smell, it took about 10 -15 minutes to realize that the house reeked of the smell of skunk. It took about a week to rid the house, dog and furnishings of the smell of skunk. Not a fond memory :sick2:

THE NEW ANT and the Grasshopper, Two Versions:

The ANT AND THE GRASSHOPPER   This one is a little different...Two Different Versions... Two Different Morals

OLD VERSION.

The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter. The grasshopper thinks the ant is a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away. Come winter, the ant is warm and well fed. The grasshopper has no food or shelter, so he dies out in the cold.

MORAL OF THE OLD STORY:

Be responsible for yourself!

MODERN VERSION

The ant works hard in the withering heat and the rain all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter. The grasshopper thinks the ant is a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away. Come winter, the shivering grasshopper calls a press conference and demands to know why the ant should be allowed to be warm and well fed while he is cold and starving.

CBS, NBC, PBS, CNN   and ABC show up to provide pictures of the shivering grasshopper next to a video of the ant in his comfortable home with a table filled with food.

America is stunned by the sharp contrast.

How can this be, that in a country of such wealth, this poor grasshopper is allowed to suffer so?

Kermit the Frog appears on Oprah with the grasshopper and everybody cries when they sing, 'It's Not Easy Being Green...'

Occupy the Anthill stages a demonstration in front of the ant's house where the news stations film the Black Lives Matter group singing, We shall overcome.

Then Reverend Al Sharpton has the group kneel down to pray for the grasshopper while he damns the ants. He later appears on MSNBC to complain that rich people do not care

Former President Obama condemns the ant and blames Donald Trump, President Bush 43, President Bush 41, President Reagan, Christopher Columbus, and the Pope for the grasshopper's plight. Nancy Pelosi & Chuck Schumer exclaim in an interview on The View that the ant has gotten rich off the back of the grasshopper and both call for an immediate tax hike on the ant to make him pay his fair share.

Finally, the EEOC drafts the Economic Equity & Anti-Grasshopper Act retroactive to the beginning of the summer. The ant is fined for failing to hire an proportionate number of green bugs and, having nothing left to pay his retroactive taxes, his home is confiscated by the Government Green Czar and given to the grasshopper .

The story ends as we see the grasshopper and his free-loading friends finishing up the last bits of the ant's food while the government house he is in, which, as you recall, just happens to be the ant's old house, crumbles around them because the grasshopper doesn't maintain it.

The ant has disappeared in the snow, never to be seen again.  The grasshopper is found dead in a drug related incident, and the house, now abandoned, is taken over by a gang of spiders who terrorize the ramshackle, once prosperous and peaceful, neighborhood. The entire Nation collapses bringing the rest of the free world with it.

MORAL OF THE STORY: Be careful how you vote in 2020.  I've sent this to you because I believe that you are an ant not a grasshopper! Make sure that you pass this on to other ants.

Don't bother sending it on to any grasshoppers because they wouldn't understand it, anyway.

I haven't sent the do-nothing Republican party a dime in the past 20 years. There needs to a real Conservative party with ambitious leadership. Probably will never happen, but if it does I will be happy to write some serious checks.

Handguns and Revolvers / Re: Dual barrel 8 shot .22 WMR Pistol
« on: July 17, 2019, 05:46:29 PM »
That double barrel .22 may not be such a dumb idea after all :th_thicon_idea:
Someone more knowledgable than me ought to check this out, but from my Internet search those two .22 WMR have more energy than a .45 auto.

I just picked the highest energy number for each:
22 WMR  322         X  2  = 644 ftlbs
9mm Luger                    = 455
.45 auto                        = 587

Comments?

I wonder what single round of ammo would have the equivalent energy/stopping power of 2 simultaneous .22 WMR rounds. Ought to be greater than a 9mm?
