Politics, Gripes, Complaints / Re: College Admissions Scandal.
« on: March 19, 2019, 07:33:06 PM »
Way back in the 70's I actually had an opportunity to go to LAW school for a the son of a purported mob guy. It was a very lucrative opportunity. I turned it down, but thought about it longer than I should have. :th_thicon_question:  That offer also contained a guaranteed draft deferment, which also begs many other questions.
I often wondered what was the value of a phony law degree for that kid or his father?

This doesn't bother me that much. No ,it is not fair. But what is really fair. If I had kids and loved them, I would probably do something similar. I would want MY kids to succeed. It would be part of my job as a parent.
This kind of stuff has been going on for centuries. The Bush's didn't get into Yale on academics. Ivy League schools have always had an opening for "legacy" applicants. If you are the child of an Ivy League and many other schools, you can usually get in. If Dad makes an endowment, his kid gets in.

Now what about athletics? Is it fair that some dumb jock gets a classroom seat, blocking some better-qualified student , just because he can throw a ball?
Is it fair that some bright deserving student doesn't get in because he/she is the wrong (at the time) race or ethnic group?
Stanford is now limiting Asian students.
Life just isn't fair. I got beat out of several jobs because I was an over 40 White male. The best way to overcome unfairness is to figure out another way; not just wait for the Government to save you.
I was successful in life because I just didn't accept failure. That is the only real way to succeed. If you have to wait for a step up, you will never succeed.

Have none of you ever made use of a rich or well connected relative or friend to get you out of a jam or into an opportunity? Was that really fair?

Politics, Gripes, Complaints / Way too go Dallas
« on: March 19, 2019, 05:28:11 PM »
The City of Dallas , Texas  ,  passed an ordinance stating that   if a driver is pulled over by law enforcement and is not able to provide proof of insurance ,    the car is towed      ..

To retrieve the car after being impounded, they must show proof of insurance to have the car released..This has made it easy for the City of Dallas to remove uninsured cars.
Shortly after the "No Insurance" ordinance was passed, the Dallas impound lots began to fill up and were full after only nine days.
Over 80%      of the impounded cars were driven by illegals .
Now, not only must they provide proof of insurance to have their car released, they have to pay for the cost of the tow,     a    $350    fine , and  $20    for every day their car is kept in the lot.
Guess what?
Accident rates have gone down  47%
and Dallas' solution gets uninsured drivers off the road  WITHOUT  making them show proof of nationality.

I sure hope this true. If so, other cities should do the same, particularly in Blue states

Off Topic Discussion (NON FIREARM RELATED) / Re: Texas, USA!

I was born in New Hampshire. I have lived in Ohio, Florida, grew up primarily in Mississippi, as an adult lived in Tennessee, North Carolina, Hawaii, California an finally to Texas in 2005. Also spent a year in Spain. Texas is the only place I have ever wanted to call home. Whenever I go to visit relatives, in less than 24 hours I am more than ready to return home to Texas. I am damn sorry I didn't discover it sooner.

I think that it is past time for a Conservative revolt. Even though the deck is stacked, call it what you want, we need a Constitutional party based on the actual values of our founding fathers. The values of the existing political parties only represent the personal desires of those entrenched in the System.

You can thank the collectivist education, that YOU are paying for, in our public schools and universities.

Still think Trump will win in 2020?

Politics, Gripes, Complaints / Re: ..wudda think about a "Space Force"..
« on: February 22, 2019, 05:35:24 PM »
Personally, I think it is a total waste to develope a new service. It is just more redundancy. Just one more service wanting a bigger piece of the military budget. Another service expensively figuring out a means to differentiate itself from the other services. Oh yeah, their going to have to develope their own "Special Ops group", because Seal Team 6, ect, aren't trained to operate in space. Seriously, the military needs to consolidate into a single service that does it all. One uniform, one chain of command, one communication system, an end to expensive inter-service rivalries and duplications.

Politics, Gripes, Complaints / Amazon and OAC
« on: February 15, 2019, 08:08:30 PM »
For the past two nights I have been hearing from Lester Holt and other liberal news people drone on about Amazon's decision to not build the second headquarters in NYC is a huge loss for Amazon and a big win for the Progressives. In what universe can it be a win to lose billions of taxable dollars a year ,good for any district. So what is the down side for Amazon, they will just do their business in cities all over the US? What do they lose, the opportunity to have a presence in NYC? OAC is bragging to anyone who will listen that she is responsible for Amazon not moving in. Hell, any other politician that lost that kind of money for her district would have been ridden out on a rail. Am I missing something?

Tech Zone / Re: a question about "chromebook" laptops........

I have a Pixelbook and love it. I haven't used my laptop since I got the Pixelbook set up. Unless you have some special heavy computing needs like Autocad or Photoshop, etc.; a Chromebook should handle all your computing needs.

General Gun Discussion / Re: Home defense
« on: February 13, 2019, 06:05:02 PM »
Kinda looks looks like any gun you shoot inside is going to cause about the same amount of hearing damage, so you might as well use whatever you feel the most confident with. For me it will be the first loaded weapon I can get my hands on. If I have any extra time I will be more selective or grab two.
Beware evil doer!

I don't see the implosion happening. The Dems will battle it out,but at the end of the convention, they will be united against Trump. You can bet on it. Don't start counting your chickens, Trump is going to need all the help he can get because establishment Republicans will only make a half-assed attempt.

Really scary. Last night on Live PD they had a similar situation. Perp was being extracted from a car by a cop, when all of a sudden the cop's partner jumped into the front seat from the other side and grabbed the perp's right hand. It was so fast you couldn't see it, but when the camera zoomed in, the perp had a gun that he had pulled from along side the console. Could have been a tragic  situation.

Politics, Gripes, Complaints / Latest Naval Interdiction
« on: December 31, 2018, 05:52:16 PM »
Boat Intercepted Off the Texas Coast

The Navy intercepted a boatload of people off the Texas coast today.

This placed the Navy in an awkward position as the boat was not heading to the USA , but towards Mexico and Central America

Another surprise finding was the people were white American retirement age seniors. Their claim was that they were trying to get to Central America or Southern Mexico as they wanted to return to the US as illegal immigrants. Then they would be entitled to far more benefits than they were receiving as legitimate American retirees.

It is believed the Navy gave them food, water and fuel and assisted them on their journey.

My wife and I are booking on the next boat out. Let me know if you want to join us.

Please send it on; if only to one person.

Politics, Gripes, Complaints / The Gravy Train
« on: December 02, 2018, 07:20:25 PM »
I doubt that Trump has anything to do with this, but I sure like the concept.

President Trump is against the “Congress Gravy Train! “

That is why so many of the Congress are retiring.

They hope to freeze their retirement as it stands.

This makes too much sense not to be passed on.

At least we can make our wishes known and hope.

I’m with Trump on this one and always will be. Trump is asking everyone to forward this Email to a minimum of 20 people, and to ask each one of those to do likewise.

In 3 days, most people in the United States will have the message.

This is why the idea should be passed around, regardless of Political Party.

The   Trump Rule’s Congressional Reform Act Of 2018:

1 – No Tenure / No Pension.  A Congressman / Woman, collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they’re out of office.  No more perks go with them.

2 – Congressman / Woman ( past, present & future ) participate in social security.

All funds in the Congressional Retirement Fund move to the Social Security System immediately.  All future funds flow into the Social Security System, and Congress participates with the American People.  It may not be used for any other purposes.

3 – Congress must purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do.

4 – Congress will no longer vote themselves pay increases.

Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.

5 – Congress loses their current Healthcare System and participates in the same Healthcare System as the American people.

6 – Congress must equally abide by all the laws, they impose on the American people.

7 – All contracts with past and present Congressman / Woman are void.

The American people did not make these contracts with Congressmen / Women.

The Congress made all these contracts for themselves.

Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career.

The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators should serve their terms, then go home and go back to work, and not get all kinds of freebies!

If each person contacts a minimum of 20 people, It will only take 3 days for most people in the United States to receive this message. It’s time for us to take action now!
