Politics, Gripes, Complaints / Texas November 2019 voting
« on: August 27, 2019, 11:14:24 AM »
Texas has Constitution Amendments coming up for a vote this November.  There are ten to be voted on.

Be sure to vote “FOR” Proposition #4.  This prevents the legislature from ever voting to consider a state income tax.  The wording can be tricky on some of these propositions (it’s probably intentional), so do your homework before you vote on them!

Good to know Bowie knives are to finally be ‘legal’ in the homeland of the Alamo!

Handguns and Revolvers / Latest acquisition for HD

New dedicated home defense (nightstand) gun.  Got a few others in various rooms scattered around the house but up until now, I’ve typically just put my EDC within bedside reach.  That happens to be a Beretta Px4 Storm Compact in 9mm.

Decided to keep a dedicated full size Px4 Storm in .45ACP next to the bed (10+1):

Only a couple improvements to be done; put a Streamlight TLR2 - Green laser light on it:

And ordered Trijicon nights sights for it.  In the process of installing / fitting them now:

Folks talk about how difficult it is to remove factory sights from a Springfield XD series pistol.  They ain’t got nuthin’ on Beretta’s Px4 Storm series.  I’ve done both and the Beretta wins hands down.  I swore when I changed out the compact to night sights, I’d never do that again.  Well, as the old saying goes.... never say never!

And in a related Breitbart [Texas edition] article, they mentioned Mexico turning back a drug smuggler and two guys convicted of murder and rape and one person from Bangladesh.

and drug the wife along too (she doesn’t always vote).  But this time I convinced her Senator Cruz needed for her to participate!
Early voting; Tuesday around noon.  Place was busy but well staffed & the volunteers kept it moving along nicely.

Off Topic Discussion (NON FIREARM RELATED) / What was this guy thinking?
« on: October 14, 2018, 04:30:01 PM »
Taking a shot at someone fleeing the scene?  No matter what the wife thought or said - this guy’s lack of self control is amazing.  Taking a long range shot at the back of someone fleeing is not a self defense scenario in anyone’s book.

Defensive Tactics / How many practice double tabs?
« on: October 10, 2018, 05:08:40 PM »
I’m a pretty big believer in muscle memory, habits (both good & bad) and how you practice will come home to roost should you ever find yourself in a life and death defensive shooting.

I know we’re all taught to “shoot to end the threat” {only}.  And observations at shooting ranges provides ample opportunity to see many shooters take a stand, fire a round, pause to check, take another shot, pause again to check and so on - NOT a very realistic defensive shooting practice, IMHO.

Over the years, I’ve been strongly influenced by a couple lines of thought.  The first had to do with carrying a 380ACP (not up for debate concerning the topic of this thread - a measure beyond my control).  And the second thought was how long the human body can stay active (threatening) after being shot - assuming no shot to the central nervous system (i.e., CNS kill shot).

So I began to incorporate a reasonably fast second follow-up shot into my range practice routine with the little pocket gun.  A ‘double tap’ (for lack of a better term) to the center of mass.  A practice I still do, to this day even though a mouse gun is not usually my main EDC any longer.

Thoughts? Comments?  Anybody else practice an initial two shot (or more) defensive engagement?

Defensive Tactics / Stopping Power
« on: August 15, 2018, 11:34:16 AM »
Here’s yet another study - video released earlier this year - on firearm caliber verses “stopping power”.  It’s view is a little from the prepper perspective.

CBS DFW Channel 11 News tonight says final decision to allow Texas Whataburger to open a location at the DFW Airport will be announced tomorrow.  🥤
