I have a Cold Steel Recon 1 Tanto (Combo Edge) and a "throwaway" GI Tanto (with paracord handle wrap) but my girlfriend has no idea what happened to our digital camera.  I also have a Benchmade H&K pocket knife (nothing special...more of a collector's item than EDC).

I've got a few cheapies but nothing worth a pic..lol
Actually I do have one that Shipwreck might like...it's a Beretta...lol

I'm trying to find my S&W knife to put with the picture.  When I find it I'll post mine.

I have a Gerber Bear Grylls Ultimate survival knife, and the Bear Grylls scout.  I also have a cheap walmart machete($7), a cheap sword from a small town fair($12) and another cheap sword that was given to me.  Then I have a cheap switchblade that was given to me and a cheap S&W Cuttin' Horse($6) from Dollar General.

I actually like the $6 S&W knife the most.  Go figure.

My current favorite is a cheapo/freebie NRA by Stone River.
Will track down the Beretta and take a pic of them both soon.

Its gotta be a 92 for me to be interested.

I've never been a knife guy. Too many close calls with knives when I was a kid.

What's the matter with y'all? Those knives look like they never get used! I love good knives, but all of mine are users, so they all tend to have marks on them and not be as purty as the ones pictured.

The top one is my work knife.  You may be able to tell that I broke the tip off and instead of replacing it under warranty I put a curve back on it and sharpened it back up.  Now I can use it to pry on stuff, lol.  The other's I rotate when I am not in work clothes.  I always have a pocket knife.

I have no idea what this one is.

This one is a Smith & Wesson Cuttin Horse Tanto.

Gerber Bear Grylls Ultimate Survival Knife
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v696/rabidhedgehog/100_0629.jpg)

Gerber Bear Grylls Scout
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v696/rabidhedgehog/100_0628.jpg)

This one is some Gerber knife I found.  It desperately needs a good sharpening.

40k. that last one you posted is one I had previously. It originally had rubber'ish pads in the front strap crescent area.
Decent cheap knife with a very comfortable grip till those pads break off and it becomes very uncomfortable to hold.

Here are some pics of a Cold Steel Recon 1 Tanto (combo edge) where I resurfaced the G10 pocket clip area so it doesn't tear up my pants pockets.  I used 3M Sandblaster sanding blocks and Forever Black tire gel.

This is just prior to my 2nd attempt (1st attempt was a trial run and now I wanted to REALLY sand it down):

Prepping for resurfacing (using triple-layered masking tape):

Just got this one.  Inexpensive and nice looking.  Spring assisted too.  Only problem is it's made in commie land and was shipped from California.

This karambit by Fox Knives of Italy is my EDC.

And this Buckmaster 184 is for...let's say home use.

I think that Buckmaster is a cool design but those spikes make it awkward as heck to grip.
Title: Re: The OFFICIAL blade photo thread!
Post by: 3rdman on October 07, 2011, 11:09:21 PM
Oh yeah those spikes can be unscrewed and stored away. Apparently, those are supposed to act as anchor points for when the knife is deployed as a grappling hook.  :afraid4:
Title: Re: The OFFICIAL blade photo thread!
Post by: Domineaux on October 08, 2011, 09:17:27 AM
Yeah I figured it would be used as a grappling hook but didn't realize the spikes were removable.
Sounds much smarter now.

This is my latest one.  It's a CRKT Ripple 2 By Ken Onion.  It is the smoothest knife I've ever had.  Feels like the blade is on roller bearings or something.  Lol.

Fix bayonets!

Okay, maybe I should exclude the Mosin-Nagants since they're technically spikes and not blades.

The ones I've seen at auction sites were asking in the neighborhood of $200 or more, which is a bit too much for my taste.  I'll be patient and keep an eye for a bargain, though if I absolutely needed one there's always the $60 reproductions sold by IMA USA.

Need opinion from the knife guys.  I am looking for a EDC/rescue type knife.  I think I have it narrowed it down to Ontario, Gerber or Benchmade.  Anyone have any experience with these knives?

I've had a few Gerbers and liked everyone of them. I've only had one benchmade, and it was a good knife. I'd go with Gerber if it were me.

Title: Re: The OFFICIAL blade photo thread!

And your right. Lol. Double edged are considered daggers. Illegal to carry in Texas.  Think my dealer should have mentioned that?  Lol. Still too cool to make him take it back. And you know what they say about how catfish don't get caught. They don't open their mouths. Lol.

I wonder if I smoothed one edge off it would be considered legal. Lol.

I have been around a lot of LEO's, none of them have a sense of humor when they catch someone breakin' the Law.  I think the dealer should have mentioned it.  But I see Bowie knives on the shelf in Walmart and Academy, an there ain't no disclaimers on them...

Title: Re: The OFFICIAL blade photo thread!
Post by: Jeb_66 on January 21, 2012, 09:13:01 PM
No doubt.  While reading the code about it they only refer to carry.  It doesn't say you can't own them. That seems a stupid law, can carry a gun and any amount of ammo I want but no daggers or switchblades.   :th_thicon_lol:

Nice knives... As for the CHL and knives.. In some states, it does cover more than guns. But not in Texas, and that's what counts for us...

I just picked this up locally from a seller on Craigslist. Apparently Imperial tried to jump in on the survival knife craze by re-purposing the M-7 bayonet into this the M-7S knife. The guard has points that double as a slotted or Phillips head screwdriver and the pommel is a hammerhead. The pouches on the scabbard used to carry a compass and waterproof case with the usual survival knickknacks like matches, fishing line, etc but have since been lost. I'll probably replace the compass but use a magnesium fire starter in place of the matches.

Hey knife guys, need some input. I recently got that Sting, and love it. But I don't carry it since it's double edged. (Stupid knife laws in Texas for sure). I'm looking for a good boot knife, that's legal. Any input?

Jebb... you can probably use this as a boot knife.  The shealth seems comfortable enough and pretty thin.

My Spyderco Persistence and Ambitious, both of which get rotated in my EDC.  Also included is a cheapo Butterfly knife that I bought back in like 2002.  Sorry for the low quality pic, my apartment has just horrible lighting.

it' a super nice blade. bought it back when if you found them for $250 it was a SUPER DEAL since they retail for $300 at Zero tolerance. Now you can find them on eBay for about $100. The release it quick and well balanced. It's a bit heavy, 6.2 oz but its a very nice blade for EDC. I don't go anywhere without it.

EDIT: It's actually heavier 8.60 oz (1/2 pound manly knife)

Good to know you can pry with it if really needed in a critical situation, but yeah short of that...don't mess up a nice knife.
Same with using one like a screw driver.

I have been seriously pleased with all of my cold steel products. I bought the 8 in chef's knife from them, that thing is amazing and holds a SUPER sharp edge very well, the blade material is high quality and nice and thick, and has a nice comfy grip too.

Just got a Boker Plus carbon fiber neck knife.  This sucker is the lightest "knife" I'll probably ever own.  It's got a Kydex sheath on a chain that I'll be changing to paracord.  I've read that they don't really hold an edge well, but for a last ditch stabbing & slashing weapon, it's better than nothing ;)

I think I'll try removing the rivet at the end so it will be easier to pull out of the sheath (& less metal).

Good point Jeb.

That rivet is keeping the sheath together.  Take it out the sheath will open up like a clam shell.  It's there for a purpose.

It looks that way, but maybe it's actually all one piece and it's there for a tie down??????

Looks like it would open up though.

The only real option is to replace the rivet with a " Chicago Screw " where you can adjust the tension like on a pistol holster.

Thought I would share my latest knife mod with y'all.  I have 2 ZT0301s. One is a low serial number & the other is a blem.  I like them, but wanted something different than the Ranger green scale on one.  I posted a WTT on a knife forum for one of the other color scales that were put on these knives, but never got a response.  So, I decided to dye the scale of the blem to blue.  I used Rit Navy blue dye.

Whatcha think?

I'm thinking I'm keeping it :)

I'm also thinking it wasn't the best idea to put my 1095 Cro-Van Steel Ka-Bar knives in the dishwasher.  Luckily they are coated & only the edge rusted.  And it didn't take too much effort to get the rust off.  I'm REALLY lucky I didn't check to see if my latest Ka-Bar knives had arrived before putting the others in the dishwasher.  These have been stripped of that coating, so they would have rusted all over!  THAT would've been a PITA!

All Cold Steel products, except for Stanley FatMax hand saw at top. Vietnam Tomahawk, Machete, and Extra Large Voyager folding knife. All well-used but sharp. I can shave with the Voyager, which has a massive 5" blade. I opened the blade with one hand once to cut pizza at a Cub Scout or Boy Scout event and won some instant admirers!

Oh yeah, I have picked up a few blades recently like a ZT0560CBCF, SOG Vulcan fixed blade, and this big beastly beauty!
