Title: The OFFICIAL Bullpup Rifle Photo Thread!
Post by: Shipwreck on September 01, 2011, 12:57:23 PM
Some sites differentiate bullpups from other "black rifles." Thought I'd start a seperate thread for the bullpup fanatics...

I sold my FS2000, but I still have this one

I've always wanted a Steyr like Baboon's but never got a chance to own an original and those new A3s didn't stay on the market in the US very long

Cool.

I had an MSAR AUG, but sold it after about 8 months. MSAR is bankrupt now.

I did love the balance of the weapon, though. Fav 5.56 weapon - balance wise. But, I do not miss it. I'm satisfied with my two PS90s :)

That an SBR or does it have a happy switch? :thinker:That gun is meant to shoot full auto. I got to sight in an optic on my buddies dad's H&K MP7. We were shooting his MP5K @ the same time. When he asked me what i thought of the MP7 I told him that's the difference of 50 years of technology in H&K's. The old man latter told his son that he wanted to sell the MP5K because of what I said.

As far as my AUG I really wish I had a railed upper. The donut of death aint good for precision shooting.

It's a SBR. No real P90 for us peons.

Whaaa? The MP5K is a classic. I don't see the reasoning behind getting rid of something just because it isn't the newest thing on the block.

Some oldies are just that iconic and worth keeping around.  See: classic muscle cars, Thompson SMGs, Stradivari violins, and MP5Ks  :P

Why did you get rid of the FS2000?

Why did you get rid of the FS2000?

Never shot it much and the trigger was pretty horrible (common for bullpup rifles). Also lack of spare parts and the only way to get it repaired if something breaks is to send it to FN.

The gun looked cool and all but I'd only taken it to the range 1 time in ~5 years and it wasn't as easy to shoot as an AR.

Is there a good bullpup out there?  I know the Steyr's cost a lot, people either love or hate the MSAR, the Tavor is coming out sometime, and that leaves the FS2000 or the PS90.
Title: Re: The OFFICIAL Bullpup Rifle Photo Thread!
Post by: grumper on April 03, 2012, 01:05:16 PM
The Steyr guns seem pretty decent. Those 25 year old original AUGs are still alive and kicking, can't imagine the new ones would be any different. But I've read the AUG factory triggers are horrid (~9 lbs).

The PS90 has a slightly better trigger than the FS2000. But you won't get the same kind of long range performance with the smaller cartridge and all.

Umm, my brother's MSAR never did work right and I think Shipwreck said that company is out of business now, guess he might be SOL with a gun that doesn't work.

There's also a company that makes a product called the 'trigger tamer' for certain bullpup rifles that is supposed to smooth things out a bunch. I didn't feel like messing with it however. My FS2000 had the original trigger pack with the safety sear and the last thing I want to do is alter/modify that thing, especially with the ATF out of control under the current regime.

I never cared much for the FS2000 either.

The PS90 just rocks. I love mine a lot.

I would love to get a Steyr AUG. There is a used one at the local shop, but I don't care to buy used. Rumor has it that they will start making Steyr AUGs again in the coming months.

The Tavor does look sweet. I was wanting one. But, I shoot my rifles maybe 1x a year. As I was on my rifle search last year - I finally decided that it wasn't worth sinking $2k+ (rifle and optics) in another rifle I rarely would shoot. The longer range over the 5.7x28mm was a consideration in me wanting another rifle. But, I decided that for what I wanted the gun for (SHTF self defense), the PS90s with 197 ammo was good enough...

Have you had any issues with old ammo fizzling out? I read somewhere the SS195LF ammo will go bad fairly rapidly. I have around 20 boxes of ammo that I purchased back in 2007. Now I'm wondering if the stuff will even work  :thinker:
Title: Re: The OFFICIAL Bullpup Rifle Photo Thread!
Post by: Shipwreck on April 03, 2012, 01:58:35 PM
I have about 10 boxes of it left (the 195 ammo)

Word is that the leadfree primers of the 195 ammo will degrade. When I ran the FN Forum, we had Ken Flood (from FNH) answer forum members questions about 1x a month. This came up several times. FN was adamant that the ammo wouldn't go bad.

My boxes are about 5 years old. I keep shooting 197, since my gun is sighted for that ammo. Generally, I shoot 197 all the time.

I guess I needa try it soon and see what happened.

Word is that current 195 ammo is slightly weaker than the older 195 ammo. Word was that the older 195 would still penetrate some level 3 armor. I can't say for sure, since that's nots omething I care about.

I think I will wait and see how that develops seeing it would be hard to justify $3,200.00 for a NIB one.

You have to realize that the AUG's were designed without a selector switch & the trigger pull controlled the select fire. The civilian version aint far off in design.

Yeah, the Steyr SPP was the same way. Horrible trigger pull when they got rid of the 2 stage trigger.

I don't understand why they didn't drop the full auto trigger position and keep the half trigger pull for semi-auto. Rather than the way they did it and make full-auto the new single shot and dropping the halfway pull.

The B&T TP9 fixed the SPP's trigger problems, so maybe there's still hope.

I have just acquired two new bullpups (Kel-Tec RFB 308 in FDE and Kel-Tec KSG OD Green 12GA Dual Tube Shotgun) to add to my first two FNs (PS90 and FS-2000).  I will post pictures soon as the two Kel-Tecs are still in the box and I am very anxious to test them out.  I have loved my PS90 and the FS-2000 which I have owned for about two year.  The FN 5.7 x 28 mm is a hot load and lots of fun to shoot.  I also have the FN FiveseveN pistol and fortunately I have plenty of ammo is it is VERY hard to find!

Cheers from Houston, RAT

I got my Kel-Tec shotgun off of GunBroker and I paid $1725 with no sales tax - You can see pictures and read about the GunBroker deal here:  http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=338992384#PIC. (http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=338992384#PIC.)  I heard at the NCA Annual in Houston that they were now producing 600 per week and my LGS just got 6 in that he had ordered months ago....actually forgot about it! They just showed up.  He still has them and is asking $1595.  I just received it on Tuesday through my FFL.  Installed some good iron sights and a  LaserLyte CM-15 Kryptonyte Center Mass - LaserLyte CM-15 Kryptonyte Center Mass (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1zc-LKchsGU#ws) which I bought at the LGS.  It really looks cool and I hope to test her out this weekend.  I will keep you posted.

Added a light to my Tavor!

To activate the light I did the "flashlight mod". There's a button on the left side of the handguard that's meant for the Meprolight MOR sight. There's a little plastic plug in there, if you dremel half the plastic plug off and remove the top rail you can mount the pressure switch right behind that button. Then the only wiring you see is this:

I also wrapped the portion of the cable that isn't visible with heat shielding. So far this setup is pretty great!

Nice Shipwreck!

I hear you about the light, the AUG rail is really short, we mounted my light on my roommate's AUG just to see and he couldn't find a good place for the pressure switch. Its also so far back it cast a pretty large muzzle shadow. Almost seems like a 45 degree mount off the top rail would be better.

That's actually a pretty smart idea. I may do that.  saw a barrel clamp on mount some have used on AUGs, but I didn't wanna go that route... Nor do I wanna change out the forward grip for an option that has a rail attached.

I'm still selling that Eagletac light. But, a lighter TRL on a 45 degree mount may be the way to go. I have a TRL1 on my PS90. Once I get my sling mount situated, I'll have to see if that will work. On an offset mount, it would still be on the side of the quick detach mount, so it wouldn't be blocked. That's actually pretty smart.

I'm just debating weight wise, but I would like some kind of light. My Eagletac with scope mounts to mount it with was like 1/2 a pound.

This was actually my first time using a dremel, borrowed a friend's. It was really easy though the button isn't made from the polymer that the frame is, its just standard plastic. Was melting it more than I was cutting it!

started with a layer of tan Krylon Fusion, then wrapped the stock with a net used for washing clothes, sprayed a layer of green, took off the net, let dry.  Repeated the layers of greens, brown, tan, & clear several times.  Then a few extra layers of clear.  I kinda think I should've left the netting on the entire time.

If I had someone local who could do this, and I had some examples to actually hold in my hand and look at upclose... I could see myself doing this to either my PS90 or my SCAR. But, I'd have to feel the texture, see how scratch resistant it is... And, see it up close. Sometimes, pictures look better...

I just put the FNH tri-rail on my FS2k along with a front grip that holds a spare mag.  Sure, it adds weight up front, but it feels better balanced than a normal rifle.

Cool.

I wish the FS2000 came that way. I think I'd like it much more. I haven't had an opportunity to hold one with that front end kit already installed.

If I had someone local who could do this, and I had some examples to actually hold in my hand and look at upclose... I could see myself doing this to either my PS90 or my SCAR. But, I'd have to feel the texture, see how scratch resistant it is... And, see it up close. Sometimes, pictures look better...

Ship,

The cerakote guy at Houston Armory does good work.  I had my 22 conversion slide done in a skull pattern - Corvette Yellow so I don't accidentally leave it installed.  They have several examples (20 or so) you can view and handle at the shop.  They are about 5 minutes from the Redneck Country Club when Chall and Turtle Bob invite us down for the experience.

I'll have to go check him out sometimes next year. I've just never had the opportunity to handle some samples.

And after not much time at all I took it back off.

It messed up the balance too much.

Oh. Ryan has some FS2000s (used) in trade last year - he offered me first shot. I had wanted one about 5-6 month prior to that.

They didn't have that extra rail on them, however. But, I decided that I didn't want one anymore - or at least didn't want to pay money for one anymore. I'm happy with my SCAR, and I think I had just bought that Sig 516 right before. When you ad the price of an optic and a few accessories to a carbine, it gets expensive very fast
