Title: What's a handgun you always wanted, but just never got around to getting?
Post by: Shipwreck on June 14, 2019, 03:13:57 PM
Could be any brand...

What's a handgun you always kinda wanted... Or has always been on your "list" - but you just never get around to getting???

(something realistic that you COULD actually buy if you wanted)

Currently, none.

I wanted to try a Desert Eagle in .44, so I bought one.

Tightest groups I've ever had at 25 yards

But heavy as heck and it's not as forgiving of all ammo.
Once I figured out it liked Winchester White Box .44 Mag rounds, it went much smoother.

(not within the parameters of the threads topic.....but)

same as TXAZ - always wanted a Luger, so I bought my "never will shoot it" collectible - a P06 model, built in 1912, 7.65mm (.30cal)

then, decided I wanted a "shooter", so I bought a P08 model, built in 1938 (my birth year), 9mm (original, all numbers matching).....(don't have a pic)

nothing that I want now

Great choice Tarosean.
2" group at 25 yards is an impressive pistol.

1911 platform in 38 Super. That one, is actually on the list and in the near future will be built. I think I started a thread about it a couple of months ago. Plus a Glock or CZ in 10mm is on my list. Browning Hi-Power, was on my list before they discontinued them. Now they are probably going to sky-rocket in price.

Handgun dont really have a got to have it one. As I have most of the HGs I want other than an new SW MP 2.0 40cal compact
And possibly a 357 snubby revolver IE SW bodyguard with a laser.

On another note only one long gun on the list
Ruger model 77 BAR in 357 mag.

have one, in 9mm - always thought another in .40cal would be nifty (but not nifty enough to buy one)

Nighthawk custom is actually building them now - and yes, they are pricy (starting around $3200)

Early 50's model Ruger MK 1 5 1/2 inch barrel .22 LR. Use to be friend had one years ago and it was just nails. See them for sale from time to time but always put it off for one reason or another. Really need to act on it as they have been steadily increasing in price.
I also want a pinned S&W Model 19. Every one I have seen over the last 10 or so years had condition issues,  priced to high or a combination of both.

Some years ago, I did finally buy a Ruger Mk III 22/45. I had always wanted one of those Rugers, but just never did buy one. The one I'd really like to add to the collection is the Ruger Mk II with the 9" barrel. They aren't rare, but not common either. The show up for sale occasionally, but those too have gotten a little expensive now.

Five years ago I bought this Mark IV with rosewood grips at a pawnshop in Austin for $375. I really liked it but I just never really "bonded" with it. Looked good, super accurate, but I don't know. I just lost interest in it. Brought it along for a meet and shoot with my cousin and his friends in Illinois. I sold it for $475 while I was there.

I think it was eight or nine years ago, a gun store in town had a package deal of a Ruger New Vaquero, and a Henry "Mare's Leg", both in 45 Colt for about $1400 IIRC. I usually went in there about once a week and browsed the used guns to see what deals I could find, and for about a month, I would look at, (actually fondle!) both of those trying to decide or convince myself I needed them. I even tried to tell myself that IF I did buy them, maybe I might get into the "cowboy shooting" competition or something similar. (which I knew I'd never really do!) I came really close, and the salesman kept trying sweeten the deal with various other things like a holster, belt, ammo and other various accessories. But I knew realistically, I really didn't have any "need" for the guns, that they were just novelties, and I'd probably lose interest in them pretty soon, so I just never did buy them. Even though it was pretty sweet price for both, it was still huge chunk of change for me to spend on novelty guns.

Since I  got my Python a couple months ago, the only guns left on my list arean original  Dan Wesson Pistol Pak and a Colt SAA old enough to have the FP an the hammer.

What I'd really want, but can never afford, is a LNIB S&W Md 27 with a 3.5" barrel.  I've seen them at gun shows and at the National Firearms Museum at the NRA Headquarters.  I have owned a couple Md 28s, a 4" and 6" and sold them both because of their weight and 6 round limitations.  But a Md 27, so shinny and soo pretty.  I'd never shoot it, at least not much.

I could say that I would love another Ed Brown. But, being realistic... I do not have the money.

I WOULD like one of the 4" EMP Springfield 9mms, though.

And, I'd love another Five Seven handgun.

how's 'bout this one in 10mm Axxe - a present day build of a P06 (1907) Luger (can also be gotten in .45acp)

https://lugerman.com/product/luger-10mm-1907-classic/

I ordered a reconditioned P08 from "the lugerman" to be used as my "shooter Luger" but he was sooooo slow in getting around to my order that I cancelled and got back my deposit, then bought an original Po8 (a 1938 in excellent, numbers matching condition) - he does have an interesting story however :

I wouldnt mind having a Cz 1911. I had one in my hand and thought,, I'll grab one later. Little did I know they would stop building them. I'm really no 1911 fan per say,, but I really would like to have one built by Cz to keep my Remington 1911 company.

If I had the spare coin to burn, I'd get a Cz 97 bd.imo, they're just to big for a realistic carry gum,, but their 45 cal accuracy is absolutely incredible.  But again, it would just be a safe queen mostly.

I spent alot of years wanting a 1903 A4 Springfield. Finally found one about 10 years ago.  That was my holy grail in firearms.

I have 4 Cz 9mm pistols, rami bd, pcr, p01. 75bd,,,, and 3 cz rifles.

They are excellent old school machine work and craftsmanship.  Competition grade  Out of the box accuracy is exceptional.
The triggers are also exceptional.

That's what Cz is known for,, and they  certainly delivered.

Once you buy 1 cz,, you will be buying more. . :thumbsup1:

Tango.I wanted to be like you so I added a laser/light combo to my FN 5.7 today. I know you don't have a light on yours so I guess I one upped you.  :P
Works very well and the balance is good but now it doesn't fit my high dollar holster so may or may not leave it.

Tango, what brand laser is that?

the battery on this one is going and I can't find one locally - so I've taken the Ade Advanced Optics red laser off (that I had mounted on my Wife's G19) and put that on the 5.7 (until I can get a replacement battery) - another nifty add-on

Tell ya what Axxe,, while I was always a big beretta 92 fan,, and EDC one for 20 or more years.  My CZ pcr with a 3.8 inch barrel hold tighter groups @ 25 or 50 yards,  than my 5'barrel 92s.
The 4.8 inch CZ 75 bd,,, is just incredible.

I bought my now X wife,, a cz rami,, I believe maybe Nato308 Carrys one,,, and while I never could get the hang of that little bugger,, she was scary with it to 25 yards.
IMO,, The Rami has more of a baby 1911 feel to it. It didnt feel right in my hand. Almost like I was going to drop it. My pinkie wasnt even on the grip,, which threw me off I think.

But the ergos  on the compact and full size 75 series  fit me like a glove.

I have the 14 rd. mags that gives it a full grip like the 75.

I'm try'n to fix it, but I still don't have a CZ based on the 75 platform.  Strange to specify, but CZ owns Dan Wesson and I love my Silverback; heck the modern 715 parts even work on my Monson 715.

I'm struggling through pulling the trigger on a Cajunized 75 Compact or a Shadow II.  It's gonna come down to which one I trip over with an overstuffed wallet first.  So just stuffing the wallet in anticipation.

I gave up my dream of a LNIB S&W Md 27 with 3.5" bbl.  I just can't get there from here with Social Security.  BUT I've been looking for a Browning Hi Power.  My LGS, Blackjack Gunsmithing has 5 different ones, but I can't get the price I need.  So.... I bought a new in box Turkish clone by Regent, the BR9.  Should get it late next week.  If you don't look close, it'll pass for a Hi Power, but it comes with adjustable sights!

Anyway, just wanted to keep the dreams going.

Chris

SIG P210 Target. Would love to have one but it's not something I absolutely need. They run about $1,450 so it's not on my short list.

Would like to get a couple Freedom Arms. The 252 & 555. Can't really justify buying them, so haven't made a serious effort. I have a 353 & a 454, so a 252 & a 555 on either end of the series would make a nice run of the models ( 252,353,454,555 ).

I've shot the Barrett single handed (that's really tough considering it weighs 35 lbs), but would love to at least shoot one of these once:

I've always wanted a 1911 chambered in 9mm, or a 2011.  Unfortunately im not even in the double digits for # of guns owned so the list is long!  :P I've been interested in building one from an 80% but 1911/2011 require alot of special tooling so maybe one day!
I really enjoy the process of building though, get to learn how everything functions and if anything ever has issues its much easier to figure out if you assembled it.
A little off topic but I've been wanting to get an AK.  Would love to build one also, but AK build requires special tooling too so will most likely end up buying one.  If anyone has any recommendations ive just started to research brands that make quality AKs.
My uncle had a Chinese pre assault weapons ban and that thing ran like a champ and was extremely accurate compared to some other AKs ive shot.

World war 2 German Luger

(https://i.ibb.co/nb6bHhH/005.jpg) (https://ibb.co/vHVH727)

always wanted one and wound up with 2 (Lugers)

top :       P06 (1912 build) DWM built, 7.65mm (.30cal) pristine condition - my "collectable", will never shoot it (note the grip safety)

bottom :  P08 (1938 build - my birth year) Mauser built, 9mm (.3543cal, excellent condition - my "shooter" (PO8s stopped builds with grip safety - other subtle differences from PO6)

both German made - both use 8rd mags and the mags for the 2 calibers are interchangeable

That's more than awesome.and one that's chambered for .30 Luger is even more so. Very nice find.

Nice to hear from you. Don't be a stranger.   :th_thicon_idea:

I'm still kicking myself for passing up a real nice Ed Brown 1911 last year. Had the money in my pocket, but just didn't want to spend it.
I will buy a nice top shelf 1911 one day, between all the top makers, there are some very, very beautiful guns to choose from.

I have previously owned two Ed Brown Special Forces 1911s. They were pretty awesome.

during my 1911 era I bought an Ed Brown SS Special Forces, in 9mm, for my Wife - very nice pistol ((weight (at 42ozs), however, is as much or more than my other 1911s))

Colt Python. Always loved them, but never owned one. And they make them again! Is .357 with a six inch barrel powerful enough to take hogs?
