I'm an AK addict, got my share of stamped AKM's and AK-74's but the milled versions (Type 2 and Type 3) are what really get my attention.

I Current have an Arsenal SLG-21 with a tapco t6 adjustable stock....Thinking about swapping back to the original stock because 99% of the time  I keep the stock at the shortest point.

I want to know what you guys think.

Thanks in advance.

It's in parts. Haven't had time outside of school or work to get anything done, plus my building buddy isn't in the greatest of health. Hopefully before or during summertime, it shall be done.

Till then, I manually perma blued and wore out the receiver to match the parts kit (NoDak Spud NDS-3). I will probably have to re-do it after the rifle is built, but I don't mind.

Romanian parts kit from 1963. Non Romy-G kit.

My AKs:

The top is a CAI imported Bulgarian built on an Elk River receiver. I replaced the crappy plastic furniture with wood that I refinished. The bottom is my brand new converted Saiga! The Bulgy isn't mine for much longer, I'm shipping her to a friend in CA tomorrow. That's why if you'll look closely there is a bullet button covering the mag release.

The Saiga has a rail! I can't wait to put a red dot on it :D

It's been said that the harmonics (or sumthin) of the x39 round works best with the short AMD barrel. I built one on a NDS rec'r, original barrel, absolutely love it.

Two screws, seriously that's it.

Really like the Vltor extension, gonna be hard to give it up when I replace it with the finished frankenstock, the length fully extended is really nice, and shooting it was much more pleasant. The red dot works fine for me that far forward, but the whole thing is definitely front-heavy, it was to start with and the red-dot just makes it more so. The AFG isn't staying, that's going on the wife's AR when her new upper comes in, but since the rail was available, decided to see how it looked :th_thicon_idea:

We just came back from the shooting range, we were measuring Tactical reloads with AK, AR and G3. The AK reload was surprisingly quite smooth. Check it out!

Yep. XinTX had the end mill/but we needed and we both got the job done on a harbor freight drill press. Wasn't as hard as I had expected it to be.

The gunsmith from Houston Armory never called me back when they said he would the next day, but then again i didnt expect him to haha.

Apex has the parts kits now.
https://www.apexgunparts.com/product_info.php/cPath/51/products_id/2620 (https://www.apexgunparts.com/product_info.php/cPath/51/products_id/2620)

You'll need a receiver
http://www.nodakspud.com/page2.htm (http://www.nodakspud.com/page2.htm)

Then add a rivet kit and a barrel.
http://ak-builder.com/index.php?dispatch=products.view&product_id=30120 (http://ak-builder.com/index.php?dispatch=products.view&product_id=30120)

Then find a 'build party'.  Some special tools and skills needed, but it's not that hard if you have them available.  The issue Jak had was the metric drills.  Need a 7mm, 5mm, 4mm, and 3mm (not sure if we used all those sizes).  Get several in the 3mm size as they're small and can snap rather easily.

Thanks! Still not done yet, i took it to the range and experienced multiple FTE's. I think it's undergassed, may need to adjust that gas port or enlargen it. AVOID U.S. MADE BARRELS AT ALL COSTS.

I had many stovepipes and these... unejected cases double feeding. Nalioth thinks it may be a gas issue.

Check your magazine feed lips against ones that are confirmed to work in another AK-47. Since this is a home-build, the chances of this thing jamming because of a bum magazine are slim. Still, it might be something to consider as well.

Haven't made it to the range with mine yet.  So time will tell if I have the same issue.  I do have the gas port drill in case you need it.  It's a long bit to reach down the gas port.

Finally got out to the range with mine.  It fired and fed fine.  Shots were off to the left a lot.  Adjusted the windage (I think I got the elevation right) but it was still shooting left.  But I didn't want to adjust any further given the wind was blowing pretty good right to left, and we were at the station furthest from any trees that would block the wind from that direction.

Shooting from 50 yards.

If all you need to do is open up your gas port, all you need is a piece of 1/4" dowel to protect the barrel.  I have the gas port drill bit.

It's an add on side rail that's attached with cap screws and nuts.  When I go back and fix the safety stop I may see if I can rivet it in place.  Need to find a decent optic mount to go with it though.

Someone else already posted a pic of the type of AK i have, but here it is again.

Mine is an M+M M10 varient. It comes with tapco stock, grip, and trigger, along with quad rail, and muzzle break.

I have an adjustable stock, red dot, mono sling, sling plate, front sight tool, and laser bore sight on the way already.

I spent 20 rounds at the range last weekend dialing in the windage on the rear site, only to notice a few days later that the front sight isnt centered...  :bangheadonwall:

I eventually want to add some sort or rail on/over the receiver. Which is the better choice? side mount (i have the lug already) or replace the receiver cover with one with a rail?

It shoots really well. I was impressed, just because ive read so many horror stories about cheap AK's. This one is online for $599 with free shipping, so i half expected it to be mediocre at best. The trigger is crisp, and light. the finish looks pretty good, no FTE or FTF. I couldnt be happier! Now to find some cheap ammo to feed it, and ill be set!

I have a cheap red dot reticle on order, but im not sure if i will like it being so far forward. I would eventually add a magnifier to it for longer distance.

I'm looking to buy this AK:

http://www.houstongunsales.com/catalog_detail.php?product_id=79304 (http://www.houstongunsales.com/catalog_detail.php?product_id=79304)

However, the seller doesn't have a picture available and cannot confirm if it has the typical
AK style side mount for the scope or some sort of picatinny.

Has anyone here had experience with this rifle that can advise me on it?

I've never heard of a Saiga that didn't come with the scope mount.

Saiga-12 transformed with a Kushnapup kit, I'd like to put some type of laser on it. Screw sight pictures and all that, no red dot or ACOG etc...

a laser...put the dot on the crackhead's chest, pull trigger!

I attended an AK build party in Santa Fe a few years ago, it was held at a lawn/tractor shop called Wagner Tractor on 6 next to the KFC.

Has anyone ever dealt with Tac47 in Spring? I dropped my AK off for some customizing earlier. Great group of guys, and you want to talk about wall to wall gun porn for AK enthusiasts. Man, I could get in trouble in that store.

Owner of Tac47 goes by the name of Keith. He's quality minded and his crew has held him back in the past but he's worked very hard at lining them and his shop out.

This has a picture of my 16.5" .308 Win VEPR & my old MAK-90.  That's the stock that the MAK came with when I got it 10 years ago.  The only other stock I've had on it is a Slide Fire, but that didn't feel sturdy enough to me.  It can be fun, but yeah...

Well, now I'm considering changing it again.  I'm starting to like the looks of the adjustable AR15 side folding stocks on a "tactical" build like this has become.  I'm just not sure how to best do this.  I'm a big fan of Hogue grips, so I'll use that for the pistol grip.  I'm just unsure about the "buffer tube" & left side folding adapter stuff needed.  Can somebody suggest the parts I'll need & give me an idea of what the total cost might end up being?

Alright now; reviving an old thread :wave1:
I just bought my first Ak. Saiga Sporter in 7.62 x 39. I'm not trying to screw around with modification or anything at the moment; I just want to buy a few more mags and a whole mess of ammo and hit the range. Do any of you AK veterans have any advice for me?

I'm tinkering with the idea of an AK.  Just for the hell of it..................  Then I hold one, and I change my mind.  Lol.  Then I reconsider by the time I get home.   :bangheadonwall:

Get a CZ527 carbine in 7.62x39, lets you shoot the round and gives you a very accurate compact platform.

Hoo doggy, prices are skydiving compared to 8 years ago and I'm lovin' every second of it.

For those of you with AKM's that need more mags, I just came across a sale at Apex where they're offering new production Serbian blued steel AK-47 magazines at just $8 a pop, with a bolt hold-open feature and thought I'd mention it:
