Johnny D,,,

Our local "K" dealer is a royal ass about TRYING to screw you on EVERYTHING.
He once tried to charge my Dad over $400 for a Case 450 dozer tranny  filter. My Brother took the old filter to NAPA and they matched it for about $20.

Dad was thinking on trading his 3800 in on a 4600 just because the 3800 has a floor hump and the 4600 has a big flat floor. .  That same dealer offered Dad $10k for his 3 year old 3800 with about 200 hrs, , and wanted $38K for the new one.

We also have a Dealer 50 miles away, the same one I bought my Kubota from.
He offered Dad $ 16 k for his sight unseen,, and his new one was about $30k.
So we are talking $28K versus about $15k.

In the end, Dad didnt do the trade which was just as well. His health started failing and he cant mow now anyway, so we do all his mowing with his 3800. .

My tractor was $27k local with a 60' deck only, , and $20 k at the other dealer, with a 60' deck, back blade, box blade and loader,  who delivered it to my home for free with a smile.  :thumbsup1:.

Dealers and salespeople can definately make the difference. That's how my wife ended up with her Scat Pack Charger.

I guess I am just surprised how that guy just tossed out a sale.

Johnny,,

I dont know how our local dealer even stays in business. EVERYONE in our area KNOWS he screws everyone.

The local gas/propane company told me this a few weeks ago. They have a nice 4600 on their lot they bought new, with forks for unloading propane cylinder pallets.

They also tried to buy that tractor local. They told me the guy was $8000 higher, and wouldnt budge a nickel on his price. So the Owner of the gas Co, drove about 100 miles north , up to Springville NY and bought it. He said they even told the local dealer that if he even came close on price they would buy from him, but he wouldnt budge an inch.

Who wouldnt drive 100 miles and back to save $8K ?

Of course I would. I agree with you there.

Maybe I misread something somewhere, but Tango appeared to want to buy from his local dealer,
they simply did not have the model he wanted on their lot and the salesguy told him he would look for one.
That never happened and the guy didn't even bother to call him back.

He found another dealer that had the model he wanted in stock and bought it.
Seems the first dealership lost a sale because the salesguy didn't bother to do what he said he would do, not because of price.

I had a similar experience with the local Ford dealer, we went in to buy a truck, looked at what they had,
told the salesguy what we wanted. All he had to do was look on the computer and see if he could get it,
but he was not interested in selling anything that was not on the lot.
So we went to a dealer that would. Bought a truck the same day.
Guy lost an easy sale.

Yupper. Heard all that.

We have a Chevy garage that I cant deal with. Have tried several times.

I went in to buy a 2500 series work truck. I told them I had cash and wanted their bottom dollar price. They said " The sticker is on the window".  :th_nuts:

I went 2 miles to the GMC dealer, and in less than 1 1/2 hrs, drove a new one home.
They knocked $7000  rebate off the window sticker.

GM was having rebates, and the Chevy garage wasnt even listing them.
In 2009, The truck I bought WINDOW STICKER listed for 34, 500. I got it for 27,500.
Which because of the savings, I turned around and bought the zero deductible 5/50 warranty. So there was MORE $$ money the dealer could have made.

Kinda weird how some dealerships act like they dont care to work with you or help you, SO THEY CAN MAKE MONEY.  :th_nuts:.
Makes me wonder how they stay in business.

Sadly, the GMC dealer owner died last year, and the jerks at the chevy garage bought the dealership. So now Ive no clue WHO im going to be able to buy trucks off of.
The GMC garage was treating me good as gold.  :th_thicon_cry:

Very nice! Congrats! Now, how big is that garden going to be? Brought up a memory from years past when I went on an estimate while working for my Dad. Just North of San Angelo, a botanist had developed a pretty impressive gardening system and the veggies and all were very impressive. Kinda funny your pics have me recalling that, but now you have the perfect equipment for such a job.

He dug out the area for the garden and put in a polymer lining of some kind, then replaced the dirt. He claimed that his soil just got richer every year while his cost to irrigate decreased, and that was before I became involved in the irrigation business. A small irrigation system that could be permanent wouldn't cost you much in comparison to the time necessary to water by hand. And there are a number of different systems where "Leaky Pipe" can be laid by rows on top of the ground. For a large garden, though, I'd probably decide on a size and do the trenching after removing the soil for the garden, out of the way of the tiller's depth. Lay the polymer lining, then replace the dirt! It won't take much watering time to keep that soil moist. And, with the larger plastic rotary (Rain-Bird Maxi-Paw type) heads spaced 25 - 30' apart triangularly, you could install a plant food/fertilizer injection cartridge to run through the irrigation system and thus the need for sprinkler heads that will flow a good qty of water. The piping under the garden needs only to be 200 PSI except for the smaller lateral lines that are rated higher. Then you could use sch 80 for the above-ground risers because they're UV resistant. Everything, of course could be on a timer and you would need backflow prevention. Being out of town, that would probably be per state code. And, everything you need is probably available at your neighbood Home Depot or Loews! Let me know if I can help!  :icon_wink:

The TRACTOR aint bad either.   :P

We have a 5 foot tiller for Dads 3800, and we use the crap outta that thing.
Everything from gardens, to field crops for the deer, or  just leveling out rough land to re-seed.

my 1st project with the Tiller will be reclamation of our (left) Doggie Paddock - it's about 50x50' and was loaded with those pesky (what I call) Bull's Head Stickers (which really did a number of the paws of our Dogs) - my Wife has already sprayed and killed almost the entire area - will till, rake of the dead stuff, bring in top soil and Horse Poop and Till it into the existing soil - then Seed

then will "do" the 2nd Doggie Paddock which is larger - we also use these Paddocks as alternate Pastures for the 2 Boys (Horses)

then.....that's comes adding more 4x4 fence posts (along the present fence line) around the entire back 2/3 of the property

then.....

key words ^ ^ ^ when it comes to buying at any place with salesmen ^ ^ ^
it didn't used to be that way when i first started in the automotive biz.
many of the salesmen had been working there for years, and had repeat
multi generational customers. these days, you can look at the want ads
for dealers and they state " sale staff wanted- no experience necessary" .
all the investment groups that own dealerships care about is making that sale.
they could care less if you come back for service or not. they got what they
wanted which was the sale and the juice from financing.
really sad all the way around

I guess I thought car (and Kubota) salesmen worked on commission.
It just seems to me that the guy missed out on an easy commission with Tango, cause he was ready to buy.

It's got me thinking that they sell that many tractors that the guy doesn't need the money.

The Ford guy definately missed out, we needed a truck ASAP.

Ended up buying a Ram 1500 with the HEMI instead of the Ford with the ecoboost.
We ended up happier.

I don't have any problems discerning your thoughts! I've been in a similar position myself within the past 5 years or so. If Tango wanted retribution, I wouldn't want to hear how the salesman's laziness would have been evaluated by his superiors/franchise owners!  :icon_wink:

1st "operation" with the new Kubota and Tiller - this is what I did this morning to one of two Doggie Paddocks - not bad for my 1st time

will bring in a load of Top Soil and bucket it in, spread it, add Horse poop and re-till - then seed - very dusty 'cause all is SO DRY  :help:  rain this weekend, maybe ?)
