The OFFICIAL Ruger Thread!
« on: April 27, 2011, 09:20:36 AM »
Now that we have no "Groups" anymore, I thought I'd start these threads... Previously, there was a "group" for each manufacturer... One could talk about that brand and/or post pics.

Anyway, if ya got a Ruger and are proud of it, this is the place to do a yee haw or post up a pic or whatever!

Rugers are bang for the buck kings.

I've had a p94, p90, wonderful, tank-like guns.

I have an sr9 that is my back up carry gun. The thin frame makes it more comfortable than my g26.

The sr9 is very accurate. and after an inital dud striker, it has been flawless through 900 rds with no cleaning.

I also have a stainless super blackhawk in 44mag. If i ever need to shoot bear, this is what I'm grabbing.
Beretta: M9, PX4 FDE, 92 FS, PX4 black, PX4 INOX 40
Glock: 17,19 gen 3 and gen 4, 26, 22, gen 3 23
1911: Dan Wesson
S&W M&P 9
Mossberg m590a1, Remington 870 HD, Benelli Nova
Marlin 336
Hk P30 LEM

OK, somebody here has to be able to help on this one. I have a Ruger Standard .22 semi auto, the first model that eventually became the Mark I. Disassembles like the Mark I, and that's the problem.
If you have any experience with one of these guns, you know that it's easy to disassemble, but to reassemble it, you have to literally hold it upside down, at a certain angle, hold your tongue exactly right, and utter some tribal incantations to get it to go back together. I have disassembled it twice, and after major efforts, had to take it to a gunsmith each time to get it back together.
I would love to PAY someone who knows how to do this properly to spend some time with me letting me do this over and over until I get it right. I want someone there who can actually get the thing together right in my presence.
Any takers?

My best 10 shot group at 10 yards

This thing is a blast to shoot and had almost 0 recoil, almost like a BB gun.

That's pretty cool. If I shot my Buckmark more, I might buy one of those custom barrels.

I have a Mark II gov't target model that I bought new in mid-1990.  Love that thing.  Had a friend with one who never cleaned his for thousands of rounds and it kept on ticking.  I fired it yesterday for the first time in three years...cleaned it before and after.  You're right about re-assembly.  That strut is the part you're talking about.  It is a pain to get in place; usually takes me a couple tries.  There are a couple of good YouTube videos that would be helpful, and you can still download the manual for the Mark I from Ruger.  That one has no pics on disassembly/reassembly.  The Mark II manual does.

The worst part for me isn't getting that part in place.  It's the removal of the barrel that challenges me.  After all this time, I still have to take a mallet to the back of it to break it free from the frame.  One good tap on a small block of wood on the end, and it comes right off.  Replacing it takes a few strikes on the front (!) to get it in position.  Many years ago, I tried removing the barrel w/o first taking out the mainspring assembly.  Oops.  Got mad and really wailed on it.  Ended up taking the end of the barrel/receiver out of round just slightly.  Called Ruger, and long story short, they fixed it promptly and returned it to me...no charge.  Been flawless ever since.

I cleaned my original magazine yesterday...first time in 21 years.  Almost looked like there was some mud on the bottom of the follower and around the metal piece at the bottom of the spring.  Functioned perfectly, however.  Cleaned up easily, like new.

This SP101 is f'ing beautiful.  I want it so bad.  I think I'd skip paying rent if I had to to get one of these.

I like Rugers.  I attended a Hamilton Bowen class at Tishomingo and I learned alot.  I am looking for a 45ACP cylinder for my NMBH, I may have to buy a convertable to get one!  I am also going to sell my Ruger .30 carbine when I get enough posts.  Here is a 45LC I cut down to 4 5/8"  George M.
