Unloaded Gun Found Inside Student's Backpack in SW Houston
« on: October 11, 2017, 11:06:59 AM »
Just got this in a news brief:

Quote
KTRK-ABC reports that Houston ISD officials said an unloaded gun was found inside an elementary student's backpack Monday in southwest Houston. Staff at McNamara Elementary School found the weapon and called HISD police. Officers took the weapon from the student's bag and parents of the student were notified with a letter. HISD said there were no injuries, and the student faces discipline for bringing the gun to school.

The alarming portion of this to me is that "Officers took the weapon from the student's bag and parents of the student were notified with a letter.".
Really, a letter instead of dropping by the home to discuss it with the parents. Maybe see if daddy is a drug dealer with guns laying around so casually that an elementary school kid could just toss it in his backpack.

Ummmm YEAH.

That certainly sounds totally insane to send the parents a letter??????

What you said Dom,,,

Im surprised the cops didnt escort the student home interview the parents,  and file some charges.

In PA,, Parents are held accountable for what their underage kids do in school , and charged for it right alongside the kid, so they ALL have to go to court.

There are probably legal reasons they can't just show up at the house. But at least you'd think that the school would call the parents to pick up Johnny at the school and PERHAPS have a discussion about why Johnny is packing?

hmmmmm - wonder where the little turd got the pistol - isn't there a law that if johnny/jane gets hold of a firearm that's owned by the parent(s), the parent(s) can be charged with "something" ?

(but maybe junior won it playing craps behind the ball building..)

Huh my boy took a tiny pen knife with him at school one day in elementary . He got suspended and I had to go pick him up.  I guess HISD is a bit more lax about things like that then Katy isd

When grandson was in 3rd grade some 6 years ago his class was asked to draw a picture of the tools his parents may use while at work. Most kids turned in drawings of laptops, carpentry tools, mechanic tools. etc. My grandson father is an LEO and he turned in a drawing of a pistol, AR 15 and a shotgun because that what he sees his dad putting in his patrol car every morning.
Well my son and his wife were summoned to the school and had to leave their jobs to go and discuss the "issue" with his boy's teacher and a counselor. The only thing my son ever told about what occurred next was that when he walked in, in uniform, every thing stopped and the people in the room had, to quote Clint Eastwood, a just f****d the neighbors cat look on their faces. When the apologies started my son made it clear that it was his son that needed the apology not him or his wife. This was done the following day in front of his class.
And it's not like they didn't know. My son had been volunteering his off time at that school for several years directing traffic for their annual parade and other things.

I think after "ya just said so" he said  "why don't I just bend you over the table there and nail you in the keester and then send you home with I just pumped the neighbors cat look on your face." :P There's a lot of great quotes in that movie.

Gunny Highway.   HooRAHHhhhhhh. Great movie.

I liked the begining where he told that big tough jail bird,,

" be advised, I eat concertina wire and piss napalm. I can shoot a flea in the ass at 400 meters.  So why do you go hump someone elses leg mutt face, before I punch yours in. "   :thumbsup1: :thumbsup1:
