They lost it when they started accepting girls.

BOY SCOUTS = BOYS

GIRL SCOUTS = GIRLS

Seems simple enough.

Political correctness will (is) destroying America.

Shield45; All,

Fwiw, WHO is REALLY hacked-off are people like my Darla & my kid sister (both hold the GOLD AWARD of the GSA, which is vaguely equivalent to the Eagle Scout badge). = BOTH said that they couldn't understand WHY the BSA decided to essentially destroy the GSA.
(My sister's comment was, "I'm glad that Mother didn't live to see this NONSENSE, as she was a friend of Juliet Low in the Twenties & would NOT approve."

Btw, over my lifetime I've been a Cub, a Boy Scout, an Explorer, an OA Brotherhood member,  a JASM, ASM, IR, SM, Explorer Advisor, District Commissioner, Ranger, Waterfront Manager, Camp Director & CEB member.
(NO, I'm NOT bragging but simply telling everyone that I actually KNOW the BSA program,  from a boy member to a Council Exec Board-member AND this "modern" FOOLISHNESS makes smoke come out of both ears.)

Note: As long as I was involved in Scouting we had GIRLS (mostly daughters of adult leaders), who were called "tag-alongs", attended/participated in Troop events & that worked FINE.
(Just ONE of those "tag-alongs" from my boyhood was Cathy McKelvey Smith, whose dad was our Scoutmaster. = She started going on most of our troop events, at age 6-7, because her dad was widowed & had nobody for her to stay with. Cathy was accepted &  became EVERYBODY's "kid sister" & to me, at least, she still is. NOTE: As Jack never remarried, my mother became Cathy's "surrogate Mom" & they were close as long as Mother lived.= Cathy & I are still "close friends" after 6 decades; we think of each other as siblings.)
Otoh, I see NO reason to change the overall BSA program, that has been successful for over a CENTURY, to please a SMALL MINORITY of "politically correct" MORONS, who want "a more inclusive, gender neutral" and "Socially Progressive organization".
(YEP. I see this as NO more than just another "NUTTY LEFTIST NOTION", which will prove to be  WORTHESS & DESTRUCTIVE OF the GSA & the BSA.)

just my OPINION, satx

So we got scouts and thatís open to everyone. Then we got girl scouts and thatís only open to girls because they do better in girl only environments. Boys do better in male only environments but we canít have them because Itís ďwrongĒ for males to succeed.

Ok, got it.  Sounds fair.  Women hold up half the sky and all.  Thatís cool but we are trying to move a 60# canoe and I need you to pick up your half. Now I need you to paddle.  No, really put your paddle in the water and dig.  You can call a slacker guy out. Maybe make him a better man. But this is not going to work well for anyone.  So glad I donít have kids.

My first thought was.....
When I was in the scouts as a teenager, I would have looked forward to teenage girls at the camp-outs..    :th_thicon_lol:

but that's just me.

ETA: would have made our trip to Carlsbad Caverns a lot more fun.

JohnnyDollar,

IF you had ever been an Advisor to a coed Explorer Post (as Cathy & I have), you would know that there is LITTLE or NO interest among the 14-17YO Explorers in dating a member of their own Post.  = My theory is that there is a strong "incest taboo" against dating among members of their own unit.

That said, our female Explorers were VERY POPULAR among the other older  Scouts, Explorers & some of the younger leaders, when we went to camporees, summer camp, etc. = Posts 707, in those long ago days,  had several very attractive/popular YL as members.
(Cathy & I started the Explorer Post because she had a 14YO daughter, who wanted to participate in outdoor activities & there was NO Senior GS troop within 50 miles for her to join. - So we recruited 16 girls & 16 boys from the local HS, got our church's Women's Missionary Union to sponsor the Post &  chartered  Post 707 with our Council.)

Note: When "Kitty" & her friends graduated from HS, the Post was "handed over to" another pair of Post Advisors. - 707 is still quite active in our little/rural TX county.

yours, satx

SATX,

I don't think I said anything about dating? :)

All I can say is when I was a scout and a teenager in general, I had interest in females,
Whether they were in the girls locker room, gym class, or on a field trip.
-so, I would not have minded them being in close proximity.

But, back to the OP,
the Political Correctness irritates me as well.

But, once they started with accepting girls,
it was inevitable that they would have to change the name as there are parents who don't want to say their girl is in the "boy" scouts.
I will be surprised if there are not other changes to the scouts in the near future.
