Well, that was interesting
« on: July 02, 2015, 10:47:41 PM »
Well, FINALLY made my 1st match. I was more concerned about not having a safety violation and not shooting myself with my Glock 17  :th_thicon_funny:

It was interesting. There is a lot of pressure to make sure you keep the finger off the trigger as you move, to reload, to focus on the sights - and to make sure you keep the gun pointed EXACTLY downrange and not angle it up even a little while doing reloads.

I came in 13 out of 20 overall - with 3 people disqualified (so, really 13 out of 17). I'm just happy I didn't come in last and didn't get kicked out :p

True dat!
It's actually shocking how many people get DQ'd for starting to "make ready" when they expect to hear that command from the RO but he hasn't given it yet.

Yea, the last guy who got DQ'd in the qualifier pointed it right at the RO thru that window. (That was the guy with that brand new FDE Arsenal Firearms Strike One). Range officer pointed it out to him and then seemed to barely remember - "You're done."

(I see those Strike Ones online for over $100 less than what Shiloh had them for - but it's not my thing anyway)

Yeah I heard about his DQ.  :bangheadonwall:
The Strike One is interesting. Feels good in hand and should shoot real soft, but I haven't tried it yet. Will probably try it in the next couple weeks just to see how it shoots.
Shiloh prices are a bit high so I haven't bought any guns through them, but they provide good service and I've had them do sight and trigger changes.

Well, I think having the 8 round mags slowed you down a bit.

Yea, I know. If I wanted to shoot 45 in competition, I'd be damn tempted to get a 227 Tacops if I wasn't going to shoot a 1911. I considered getting that when I was buying the 220 I just got. The Tacops comes with the thinnest grips of all the 227 models. The gun has 14 round mags. The extended mags are rather long for self defense purposes, but great for something like this, I think

I am almost tempted to just stay in limited and throw a rubber grip on the G17 like I want, and then add a magwell to the gun. Of course, then I'd need thicker mag plates to work with the magwell... Its just a vicious cycle... Not sure I wanna drop all that into the gun for now...

Can you use a magwell on a glock for IDPA? Probably not, huh?

A 227 would be a dissatvantage in every class but Limited-10. Even then 40SW gets the same points.

What mag plates/extensions do you use on your Glock setup with the magwell?
