Anyone Ever been to Van Road Gun Range?
« on: May 15, 2015, 04:23:42 AM »
Van Road has quickly become my favorite gun range.  It is an outdoor range with distances from 8 yards to 700 yards.  Beautiful scenery, quiet, and usually not more that 1 other person there.  I used to go to Best Shot Range in SW Houston, but then I started going to High Noon Gun Range (Both indoor).  Finally I heard about Van Road and I love the place.  If you are sighting in a rifle, bring your own lead sled if you have it.  They have little wooden hand made supports for bench rest shooting.... but if you're really trying to get a scope putting holes in holes at 100-200 yds+ bring your own stuff to secure your weapon.  Also, prices are $15 per shooter with two guns and 1 target.  Each extra target (can be different distances) is $1.  An extra shooter and two extra guns will bring it up to $20 for two shooters, 4 guns, and 1 target.  Still $1 each for more targets.  I am not advertising for them here, just saying that it is a great place to shoot if you're east of Houston.  The owners are all vets and are very pleasant and helpful.  Only downside is, it is cash only.  No credit, debit, ebt, food stamps, kidneys, blood, first born, or personal checks will get you in.

From bench looking out to 100 yards

From target at 100 yards looking back to bench.  I may have zoomed in there a little.. The distances don't look the same.

I've never been there but your review has definitely put it on my map.  I've been going out to Dayton Gun Range which runs out to 200 yards and pricing is similar.

Yes they have a pistol range at the far end that is tailored for pistol shooters and far from the rifle shooters.  The other cool thing about the place is they stay open after dark as long as there are shooters there.  It allows you to practice dusk or even night time shooting.

Sounds like an awesome range. Wish they had something similar here in Waco.

I have been a member since they opened. It's a great place to shoot. The range goes out to 200 yards. But they are expanding and putting all kinds of new training sections. Past the pistol range is a section for private party shooting and they even have a place for IDPA shooting, but you have to let the teams have the field if they show up. I usually run drills for an hour or two and then I bench shoot suppressed while listening to my radio. It's really quite during the weekdays, but on weekends it's packed. IMO, mornings are the best. It's usually it's just you and the same two or 3 people till noon. I recommend getting a membership.  You get full access to the range and you will get the code to the gate to let yourself in and out as you please. I feel sorry for all those people waiting outside the gate to come in an shoot but the owners haven't showed up. Sometimes they don't show up till noon time. I think I paid around $200 for a family membership (You plus 4 family members or guests). This was the best since I shoot 3-4 days a week. I also take my own targets and all the guns I want. What I like best is that you can let your kids shoot at this range as long as you are right there teaching them. I taught my 7 year old there two years ago, and he loves to shoot. Every where else kids are not allowed to shoot no matter what.

Are they allowing steel targets?  I think kids really enjoy the feedback they get from those.

Really?... That's odd. The two ranges I frequent, both let my kid shoot as long as I am there.
