Polymer projectiles
« on: May 18, 2017, 07:38:37 PM »
Anyone shot or are interested in the new polymer ammo?

Velocities are pretty high and the design of the projectile is unexpected but the results seem to be a larger wound channel that conventional HP ammo.

I think I'd like some real world experience or LEO adoption with them before using for my EDC.

If you are talking about the ARX --- https://www.polycaseammo.com/project/inceptor-arx/
the wife and I have shot some.
She liked it, not much kick.
I was more meh....

it is accurate enough, but to me, there is just something about lead that is more comforting to me. :)

Neither of us carry it.

I tried the Ruger ARX 380. In my Beretta Pico it was not accurate at all but from what I've read online it's as accurate as anything else out of other pistols. My Pico was less snappy shooting the ARX. Feeding was 100% reliable.

Shot a trapped feral hog with 45ACP ARX, took 4 rounds to anchor a 220 pound sow. No way would I consider this ammo for defensive use. Penetration was shallow (less than 6 inches) and the wound channels were not much bigger than a round nose FMJ. 230gr Gold Dot or First Defense ammo usually does the job in 1 round, 2 at worst.

Found a polymer 79 gr. Captech Jamison .327  Fed Mag low recoil round that I like for the range. Not something I would use for self defense. Great practice round for my Ruger LCR. At 67 cents a round it's not cheap though.

Eat polymer just doesn't have the weight that eat lead does.
A well balanced breakfast, being necessary to the health of the nation, the right of the people to keep an eat cereal shall not be infringed.  Now who gets the ceral, the breakfast or the people?
Sure I'll shoot your Glock.  Just hang it with the rest of the targets.

not understanding the value - more expensive, less deadly, maybe softer recoil - huh ?
