..bought a couple of trucks today..
« on: March 31, 2017, 11:39:59 PM »
.
my Wife and I decided to do a vehicle consolidation and today we each bought a new Toyota Tundra pick-'em-up truck - her '06 GMC Sierra was gettin' pretty ragged - I figured my '12 Ford Platinum might be thinking about needing some work

gotta laugh - all my P/Us have been 4wd but I opted for a 2w/d - hers have been 2w/d and she got a 4w/d - go figure

we also sold her Lexus - a '14 LS460 with only 3600 miles, yep - 3600 miles - a great ride but we're now homebodies and don't plan on any extended driving vacations, so it was just "sitting"

Tundra's & Tacoma's have been steady sellers for Toyota the last few years. Son's father in law buys a new Tundra every year to 18 months. Put's a crap load of miles on them driving to different oil rigs all over Texas. There's also four or five in my parking lot at work. Hope you got a good trade in on your Lexus. You know their going to command a premium when they list it.

someone is gonna get a great car when they buy the Wife's Lexus - would loved to have driven it to the Pacific Coast and back but those long get-aways are gone now-a-days

we looked at GMC trucks - nice but way too many bells and whistles (lane departure correction and thigh thumping, for example) - the Tundras just seemed to fit - plus they have HUGE gas tanks (38gal ?) where as the new F150s cut down the size of theirs (to save weight = increase mpg and going to aluminum didn't sit well with me )

Toyotas are actually better bang for the buck than the other brands, IMO

Nice trucks, my next vehicle purchase will be a tacoma most likely.   If you're over 55 those trucks will probably last longer than you.  I currently own a corolla (I do a lot of driving) and I have put 22k miles on it in 13 months.

Toyota builds a fine automobile (& truck)

I bought a T100 a number of years ago - it's still being driven around the area by a couple of owners after me

Wife had an Avalon, for years, which she really really liked - then she bought that Lexus...that she never drove

I was surprised to see that the Tundra was a better "deal", dollar wise, than GMC and Ford (I never considered a Ram - don't know why, just didn't)

Ok I'm freakin jealous of your garage, but you can't go wrong with a Toyota. While the wife and I were in the UAE we bought a 15 RAV4 and my wife loved it. If it was US spec we would have brought it home.

There is a rumor that Toyota is bringing the  Hilux to the U.S. this year or next.  Of course, Rumor, but damn they are good trucks.

for years "the world" had the little p/u trucks (mainly Japanese) that were in the crewcab style (a full 4 doors), but "the world" didn't include the US - it was years later that they were finally brought here

would suspect that the US manufacturers just might have had something to do with keeping them out

and yes, I agree with the conscious here that the Tundra is a good truck

Very cool. I had a Tundra a couple of years ago. Really loved the power when you pressed the pedal, also the back window that rolled down. If I had gotten the loaded version, I would probably still have it.

both of ours are the Limited series and they have just the right amount of bells and whistles - we also didn't want a sunroof, which these don't have - and yes, the full rear window "roll down" is nice

I sprung and got the front and rear Weather Tech fitted mats for both trucks and I've always kept color coordinated Bath Towels on all the leather (on all the vehicles I've owned - "doggies" have sharp toenails.....)
