Assuming no major issues with my new Springfield Champion Operator, it'll become my carry gun within the next few weeks and I'll be shooting it at this match in CDP.

So you set up a match where you want everyone to shoot their EDC setup, and then go out and buy a special gun just for the match and claim it is your new "carry" gun just in time for the match.....nice... :bangheadonwall:

That may not be why he did it but it's a good enough excuse for me to go buy a new gun.

Heh, good point :)

I've been wanting a carry 1911 for a little while now and just got one. It just so happens that the sale of my AR (which had to occur before I bought the 1911) occurred at a perfect time for this match.

nice! did you buy it new, or pick up one of the used ones on GunTrader?

if it's going to be your EDC, i don't understand why people would have a problem with you using it at this match. i carry a lightweight 4.25in 1911 most of the year (currently a 3in lightweight), and have wanted a Springfield Loaded Champion (or Champion Operator which is technically also a 'Loaded') for awhile.

I got it new. I only saw one on texasguntrader, but it was priced too high (they they were trading for an AR, but I had already sold mine). But I got it, a small magwell and some accessories for it within my budget so I'm happy. I took it apart last night for a cleaning and felt how light the frame is. The entire weight of the gun is on the slide; interested to see how it feels to shoot it. Then I almost broke the damned thing by putting the recoil spring backwards on the guide rod... it's hard to get the guide rod out when the spring isn't locked into place.

Also, Leftyonly is just razzing me.

i love aluminum frame 4-4.25in 1911s. they have excellent balance when they're loaded.

Glad to hear. It's 12 ounces lighter than my government size unloaded and that was the main reason I went with it.

Stages for the 8/30/12 match. Depending on the speed of going through these, there might be a 7th standards stage.

I'm going to be shooting my new carry gun (Springfield Lightweight Champion Operator in .45), IWB, and a single magazine carrier. I've been going back and forth daily on whether I like my leather IWB magazine carrier or my Comp-Tac OWB carrier. I haven't quite settled on which one I plan on using for carry.

I tried signing up online and it doesn't recognize my email address. I did shoot at Shiloh on 6/21 http://www.shilohidpa.com/Matches/IDPA/162/official and I'm pretty sure I gave them my email, but it's not showing up...

help?

If your name isn't underlined on the scores (linked to your profile info), it means the scorekeeper didn't have your email when adding scores (the club membership and scorekeeper paperwork tend to go to separate people, so the email needs to be on both). You can use the "I haven't shot here" option on the login to create an account.

If your name is underlined on the scores, shoot me a PM with your email and I'll see if there was a typo.

Well, I only have my carry pistol.  Actually, I have two versions of the same thing and carry them both.  The only difference between when I go to work in the morning and when I go to IDPA is the holster.  My usual carry holster is a leather pancake that goes flat when the pistol is not holstered making reholstering difficult.  It pulls the pistol in a bit closer for better concealment.  For IDPA, I purchased a Crossbreed Snapslide so I can reholster without pointing the muzzle at my thumb after I shoot.  Comp-Tac does not make a model for my pistol.

Other than that and notwithstanding the "no cover" relaxation of rules in the summer, I always shoot what I carry the way that I carry.  I really see no point in going any other way.  Since any self defense situation will depend on quick reaction and proper muscle memory, I see no other sane reason why I would want to change.

When I get rich like all you other guys, maybe I'll get me some "special" game guns.

See you guys Thursday.

Scores are posted. It was an interesting night seeing people shoot their tiny carry guns.

http://www.shilohidpa.com/Matches/IDPA/181/official

I shot my not-tiny carry gun (4" 45ACP 1911) and unfortunately shot it like my full size 9mm 1911, which means I ended up shooting too fast and missed a bunch on the 12+ yard shots. Looks like I need to practice with it a bit.

This is one reason why I really like doing these kind of matches... if I'm walking around with a 5 shot and 2 people attack me and my wife, do I really think I can get the job done with it? And do I think I can reload it in a small enough amount of time before the others get to me?
