yep - not cool

but, ya know, every other incident I've read about a civilian stopping an evil-doer has turned the stopper into a hero - seems to be a thin line between "hero" and "not cool"

I can see why some folks might not want to get "involved"

(and the LEO or the article writer.....ending a sentence in a preposition - where did they learn their English from - not "illegal" grammar but "not cool")

The big problem was the warning shot.

If he had not fired the warning shot, he probably would have been fine.

In Texas, "He needed killin' " is a defense to prosecution.

The judge should have also required him to get an immediate vasectomy.

I'd have probably called 911 and that's about it, maybe recorded the rest of the confrontation from minimum safe distance, but even that's pushing it, TBH.

Hate to judge a tiger by its stripes,, but that guy just looks like a complete dweeb.  :th_KO:

I could see him either tending bar in a gay club, being a hair styleist, or cub scout troop leader.

related.....

just saw an incident on tv (5:45pm wednesday) - a perp was atop an officer when a citizen stopped, pulled his handgun and told the perp to get off the officer - the perp didn't and the officer said "shoot him, please"

the citizen shot - the perp later died - the officer is back at work - no charges against the citizen

there's that thin line - between "hero" and "dolt"

There was a physical struggle, but no weapons.  There was no imminent jeopardy.  Had he accidentally fired the gun while pointing it at others...tragedy could have occurred.  Even those with no common sense can still get an LTC...all they gotta do is give correct answers and hit a target.  Doesn't mean they have common sense.

agreed.

on a side note,

I wasn't there, but based on the facts
- two guys struggling with 1 guy who was screaming for help -

but I would like to believe, I would intervene in some way whether I was carrying or not.

BUT..... by intervention, lets be clear....

If I saw it as described in the article, no weapons and no punches being thrown,

I would have called 911,
and walked over and informed them that the police were on the way and NOT pulled any weapon since they did not have any.

If they proceeded to come after me, or produce a weapon, things change.

But as described in the article, they probably would have been fine with that,
police would come and explanations made and everyone would be on their way.

I know I don't know what I'd do

LOL, you mean like you did also?

I agree about the warning shot, especially since it was fired so close to the person they were trying to control. I had a buddy lose an eye after a bullet splattered concrete pieces toward him during a fire fight in a warehouse.
