My DOH! Moment
« on: March 25, 2017, 11:37:53 PM »
Was reloading some .308 win and had about 13 extra rounds that were cleaned but unprimed.  Looked in my primer lot and opened one with about 15 in it sitting on top of the LRP primer case.  Loaded 3 and noticed the package was for Large Pistol Primers.  Oops.

Any advice on how to handle these 3 mutant primed casings?  What is the ignition power difference between the two?  I've not found any info on the web yet.  Links appreciated.  Advice from seasoned reloaders welcome.

live action dry fire? I would load them in the chamber and fire the primers off in a safe direction, then deprime and be done with it. 0.12 cents worth of primers isn't gonna break you. Wear hearing protection. It maybe loader than you expect.

Ignition power difference isn't the issue--the pistol primers have much thinner cups so the fire easily but can't take rifle pressures.
Pull bullets, pour out powder, and either deprime or fire them.
Only keep ONE type of powder, ONE type of bullet, and ONE type of primer on the bench.

Thanks.  No need to pull bullets an powder, they weren't loaded.  I'll pop the primers, then reload.  Thanks.
