I forgot to mention:

This is the new shooter info page for the club: http://shilohidpa.com/Content/NewShooters.aspx
This is the calendar where you can see which nights are IDPA or USPSA, and register for the match: http://shilohidpa.com/Matches.aspx

Awesome recommendation JohnnyDollar! Place looks great and it's only 4 mins from my place out there. I'll be out there for New Year's, maybe I'll run into you and the misses ;)

Dred, Bayou Rifles looks like a great place & not too far from Athena. I'll get back to you on the holster & extra mag.

Domineaux, fees aren't bad at all at Shiloh. Prices can vary drastically from place to place so I always check. Shiloh might be a bit hard for me to get to by 6pm on a Thursday night during rush hour. We'll see what I can work out. I'll message if I plan on coming next Thursday. I have something going on this week.

We're not as picky about new shooters making it by 6pm these days, so as long as you can make it by 6:30, we'll make sure you are good to go.
In fact, if you are going to watch the first time, we can brief you during the match so you can see what is going on at the same time, which will make it easier to follow.

Fairly new to THIS  forum myself. But welcome from PA.  Not in your area , so cant help there.

As far as conceal carry, I have been conceal carrying for 29 years.

My advice would be a couple things.

Make sure you are VERY familiar with  your weapon of choice. Shoot often & Learn how to tear it down and clean it often. That really helped my wife get comfortable with her conceal carry, which, if needed in a crisis, working the weapon will come naturally.
If you can find someone experienced to help train you that would be a bit of help, just beware the you tube self declared experts.
KNOW the laws in you state inside and out,  for conceal carry and protecting yourself.
And if , God for bid,  you have to shoot someone, YOU call the police if possible. Thats important. they generally go with the first story told and YOU can control the tempo of their response. .  "  I shot them, my life was in danger, and theres the gun. ". Then shut up.
Tell the police you are too upset to make a statement at this time, and will make one just as soon as you have an attorney present.
Remember, ANYTHING you say CAN be used to prosecute you, but WONT be used to help you.
The less said until you have an attorney present, the better.

My daughter in law has the Sig 938, and even being a big CZ fan myself, I really liked it. A very fine weapon indeed.   I carry a 75d  PCR or P01, and my wife carrys a 2075d rami. We prefer the decockers.   But she also really liked the Sig 938.

Good luck, and be careful.  :th_thicon_idea:
Politicians are like diapers, they should be changed often, and for the same reason.

There are two kinds of people in the world my friend. Those with loaded guns, and those who dig. YOU DIG.  " Blondie".

Welcome from NE Houston.

As for shooting ranges, I'd like to go to Athena, or for outdoor Vans Rd Gun Range in Sheldon.
