WTB: DV7 screen
« on: June 13, 2015, 02:12:07 PM »
Howdy fellas.

Well it's probably the longest shot in the world, but if anyone here is either scrapping or throwing away an old Hewlett Packard DV7 series laptop, specifically a model Dv7-3165dx with the screen in good working condition, and they are willing to part with it for less than what eBay wants, I might be interested in buying the screen. Might trade for it as well, depending on your trade needs.

Thanks in advance!
-G.

Craigslist is what got me into this mess in the first place, so I'm not real crazy about going back for seconds. In any case, local offerings aren't very good either, but thanks for the suggestion.

I got a 15.6 screen from a HP g60 (?) but the screen you want is 17.3 right?

The screen has been smashed right in the center, rendering it almost totally inoperable unless I plug it into an external monitor that I do not have the space for.

Thanks, but yes, I need a 17.3" screen.

And to complicate things, HP did this nifty thing where they put the screen's connecting cable on the LCD panel, different from one model line to the next. I haven't tried cracking this thing open yet so I haven't figured out which side the cable is on, but that's why I need exactly a replacement from a DV7-3165DX.

http://m.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=dv7-3165dx&isNewKw=1&isRefine=true&mfs=KWCLK&acimp=0&_trksid=p2056088.m2428.l1311.R1.TR2.TRC1.Xdv7-3165&sqp=dv7-3165

Although I appreciate the suggestion, as stated in the OP I was hoping to avoid going the eBay route -- they want $50-$60 or more for a new screen, or $90+ for a whole fixer-upper unit, and I only need the screen. I've been watching eBay/Craigslist for weeks now without any success, which is why I was hoping to snag a used working screen from a unit with a fried mobo for less.

Even assuming I could pick up a used screen at roughly $30-$40, I'll be lucky to break in a little under what these things sell for at a pawn shop in working condition these days. If it comes down to it, I might just have to cut my losses and try to part out this friggin' thing to recoup some of my $60 -- there's no guarantee that this thing won't go tango-uniform here in a week or even a month anyway, especially if the previous owner dropped it and rattled all the innards.

It's exceptionally frustrating because I've had one of this model before, and I absolutely adored it until it s*** the bed. F***ing scammers. :bangheadonwall:

Understand but looks like the desired OP options may not get you to where you want to be.

Good luck.

Went ahead and had to buy the screen on eBay, so this thread can be locked.
