New 3" GP100 in 357 maggie
« on: May 19, 2018, 03:07:25 PM »
I finally found a 3" GP100 with fixed sights.

I have been looking for this model for years. $475 OTD from my buddy's shop.

Nice!  :th_thicon_idea: But do you have enough speed loaders?  Looks a little sparse to me. :P

Excellent! Should be a great combat revolver. Personally, I don't care for barrels shorter than 3" on a .357 Mag, although I've put plenty of rounds through a 2 3/4" Speed-Six. Close enough and my shooting partner lucked out on a very nice 2 1/2" M66 on Gunbroker.

I would have no doubt about a 3" GP-100, and without a large investment it's pretty easy to get a good trigger unless you plan to have a smith tune it. The trigger return and hammer springs from Wolffe help a good deal for DA shooting so long as you don't go too light on the hammer spring. In both cases there are "calibration packs" with lighter and better quality springs than it comes with from Ruger. But, shoot the hell out of it first and decide for yourself.

If you handload you're in luck as far as powders and recipes. I have some dandy's for short barrel magnums!  :icon_wink:

.
very nice lookin' pistol

.357mag is my favorite caliber to shoot - but I enjoy shooting it thru my Coonan Classic (5" semi-auto, quazi 1911 pistol)

for some reason (?) I bought my Wife a 686+ .357 and it's "ok" - she also has a Ruger LCR in .357/.38 spec, which is brutal when shooting .357 (ouch)

Very nice .
Been looking for something like that for the wife as she has a heck of a time trying to rack the slide on a semi auto.
With a revolver and speed loaders  I think she would be good to go.

As always, impressed with the firearms you find. I like Ruger's but I'm not feeling it for my new 3" SP 101 in .327 Federal Magnum. I thought replacing the grips with Houge rubber would change my mind but....I'm still on the fence about keeping it.

Get some badger grips. You will love them.

Picked up a variation on that theme. A new 2 1/2 inch GP100 with compact Lett grips and a brass bead front sight. Didn't get it that cheaply, but can't complain about $540 plus $20 transfer.

I'm with geoman, mesinge2.
You may want to procure more speedloaders.
Very nice.

Nice find!
I love my 3" GP100. You should try some compact grips from Ruger, they look and feel great on the 3".

mesinge2,

NICE FIND.

What I'd love to find is a S&W Model 65 in 3".  = YEP. I know that they are "NOT catalogued" but a some few were made for the OSBI & SLED agents, as well as a few extra.
(The only one that I know of right now belongs to a SC State Constable & he won't even consider selling the revolver.)

Woah gorgeous pistol!

Hows this compare to a 38 spec? My Taurus is an ultralight and it kicks like a mule.
